Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a base model 2000 cadillac deville. Just replaced the rear air shocks with oem equipment. However though they are not bottoming out they are not rising to stock height . Compressor is working there isnt any leaks in the lines is their any other part that could keep them from airing up to stock height.

Connect a pressure gauge to the air line behind the compressor or at the shockys. because they are pump up type I would expext a pressure regulator to prevent over pressuising the bags. Check the max pressure and if below requiired pressure adjust the regulator or get a new compressor. Check and adjust the drive belt tension and condition.

Check the pressure that the compressor is putting out.
It may need adjusting to give the shockies more pressure

I appreciate the helpful comment, but how do you check and adjust the amount of air the compresor is putting out.

  • christopher Apr 25, 2013

Thanks for the info. What is the max psi that the shock compressor pump should read on a pressure gauge and if the pump is not putting out enough air, how do you adjust it if aplicable. Is there a screw, knob, or valve on it for ajusting air pressure.

Check the data fir the oem shockies but I imagine it to be over 40lbs/square inch Most good compressors will do 90lbs/sq"
The regulator will be next to the bags and will be an adjustable screw of sorts. Again check for the data from the dealer.

SOURCE: My 98 Cadillac DeVille rear air suspension system

Common problem on all air suspension vehicles. It could be that there is a hairline crack in one of the shock bladders or that the pump is just too weak to pump up to it's intended pressure, a sensor or solenoid could also be bad.

Whenever I run into this problem I order a spring conversion kit for that vehicle, it is usually not worth spending $3000+ to repair the suspension.

www.Strutmasters.com sells the best kits, $327.00 for the rear. It also comes with a resistor so that your suspension light is not on.

04 deville, abs, pcs, brake light, will not go off after replacing rear air shocks with hydraulic ones. What can be done?

It is very unwise to replace these struts (front or back) with generic shocks!
For example, if you have the road sensing suspension (RSS) option, the struts are computer controlled, and when the computer detects no connection to the strut or a strut problem, you get errors. If this is the case, some folks have terminated the wiring that was removed from the strut with special resistors to fool the computer - check the Cadillac Owners forum for details.
Also, disconnecting the air pump is not wise - more computer errors.
Cadillacs do NOT like aftermarket equipment that does not meet GM specs - a lot less trouble to bite the bullet and just use OEM parts.

1997 cadillac deville 4 door sedan can you replace factory rear air shocks with good ol' after market air shocks ( these are the ones that you yourself can adjust the ride height by putting air into them)...

You can, but they won't adjust like your factory ones (automatically) Lots of folks replace w/aftermarket shocks instead of depending on factory units.

Battery removal 2000 cadillac deville

Its on passenger side under rear seat cushion. Get in back seat FACING rear seatback, grab under lip of bottom seat cushion, and pull straight up. Disconnect seat heater connector (if so equipped) on passenger side and remove seat bottom. Tada! There ya go! Oh... btw. Its a $150 battery due to the venting system designed into it to vent fumes through a tube to the outside world. Thanks Cadillac!!! :(
