Replace the air filter and IAC idler air control valve.

too fast hot or cold.,
this car has a ECU, brain,
the brain controls RPM full time hot,
not you unless you step on the throttle.
only IT does. the ECU.
if the idle is wrong when cold engine, that is the IAC failing.
or is normal, I dont know you never stated

The car drives when you come 2 a stop and take off again it rears up and wont go until u turn it off and it goes again


are you saying , it stalls (RPM on dash goes to 0)
or RPMs are below 800(hot and is wrong) ?
or that all the above is ok, but I have lost engine power?
if A/T transmission slip, (RPM goes way to high and MPG dont track RPM correctly)
is car an A/T
when asking for help , stated engine size and transmission options.
we dont know. and Civic sub model name is good to... we are blind here.

2002 Tundra, replaced battery, alternator was checked and is good, but engine cuts out when I slow down/break, and battery light comes on. Starts back up easily.

hot or cold engine, or both.
ever heard of engine stall? the rpm drops below 800 and stalls?
the engine rpm is KEY
post all symptoms, and we can fix it.
so far all i have is the hint of a stall or engine running at 300 rpm.
the alternator don't work at 300 rpm. at stall or near that.
your car dont have a tachometer? if it has one learn to watch it.
stalls are complex.
can be.
The engine PCM controls idle speed and Regulation at all times.
and is the LAST thing to work right, in EFI.

think of a juggler of bowling pins, a delicate balancing act.
so if the pins are slippery , he drop one, so easy.
EFI is Electronic fuel Injection (makes spark too , on gas engines..)

on EFI, idle fails (low) 800 is normal hot block, (look up yours. no engine options or size or cylinder counts stated)

the low RPM is caused by. many things. (i have a list of 50) so skip that....
1: too rich , too lean,. misfiring, DTCs set, ever scan the PCM YET?
2: EGR sticking open(clean it)
3: ISC (IAC electric) stuck closed, (again clean it)
4: never did the 60k mile tune up? if you did it would run ,if not the person doing it would tell you why it dont run right or even fix. it.
during a tune up , we check the ISC and EGR for filth and clean them.

now ill do the marco (physics answer)
1: bad engine, engine compression bad on 1 or more cylinders.
2: bad spark , tuneups fix this 99% of time, and work
3: bad fueling. (vastly complex. but most times bad inputs to ECU)

there are exceptions, but all land on #1 (stops engine from pumping air)

in drive, or park, is this a stick shift car, i dont know.

this is called surging idle. and all EFI love to do that at a drop of hat.
ALL
the hot idle is 800 rpm
bad idle surgine is caused by.
1: EGR leaking.
2: lean combustion for any of many reasons, is EFI holding closed loop status at hot idle, (no , fix that first.
3: ISC is out of control (ISC electric is the ECUs idle controller)
the ISC goes out of control easy.
EG:
a: egr LEAKS.
B. AIR LEAKS.anywhere in the induction path (AIR path)
illegal leaks, MAF engines go lean, MAP engines just race fast.

4: ISC is stuck (clean it)

with all cars. we:
1: check all fuses
2: check the CEL is it glowing running,? yes, then scan it now.
3: check with scan tool for closed loop hot. if fail fix that first.

and lots more..... but i stop here.

2002 toyata avalon runs good when cold after 5 mins car starts jerking and slowing down .then resumes as if nothing has happened. scared me to death. car was running great now this . what could be wrong?


dont get scared, brakes work?

all cars, can do that. in fact your drivers ed, person should have demonstrated it. (stall engine, on safe road and see how brakes and steering get hard, so you dont panic on the road, practice !!!)



so look at the dash, see all them lamps, one is CEL

if RPM is still above 800rpm (bad if not) the CEL must not

glow driviing.

if it did , there are scan codes to read, to see what happened.



1: get a tuneup, (spark parts, fluids and filters.)



sounds like engine problems to me, but with A/T tranny , they can fail and slip, and jerk, so watching the tachmeter will tell you which is failing. got a Tacho meter in dash? most good cars do.



if rpm drops below 800 hot, that is idle fail or stall.

if cruising and rpm lurches way high, that is tranny slip, (bad)

there are some checks for you.



id stay in the slow lane,sure would. till fixed.

Can somebody explain please what is " limp mode " that seems to be a common problem on older vito`s ?? is the problem specific to one particular model ?? whats the best way of fixing it apart...


Limp mode is what some vehicle computers go into when there is a problem with the engine or transmission which, if traveling at regular acceleration and speeds, may cause further damage. So, in "limp mode", the vehicle can get around, just not very fast. Engine may not go beyond a specific RPM, transmission may only use the higher gears.

I have a 327 small block i have spark and fuel but dont start


the coil will get hot with running ,timing must be out put cam back as it should be ,it will not run any better with the cam advanced ,this is tech talk by part time weekend mechanics that know sweet all nothing .reset the timing to static for number one TDC ,firing order 153624 ,the only way a cam will give more rpm is if its designed to with a different cam lobe configuration not just moving it ,This will also cause the engine to use more petrol because it has no power at the low RPM range .These boy racer mags think they know it all with their cog boxes and harry moss add on goodies ,and fancy paint jobs .If you want a faster car get a ferrari or a jaguar XK ,and ignore these so called experts who are all talk to baffle people like you ,if they think they know it all just ask this question ?? is this engine adiabitic or isothermal ,if they cannot or will not answer this question then just call them a sunday mechanic .

Oil pressure


30 PSI hot idle is ok, 40-50 PSI at freeway speeds hot is good. this is based on using the correct weight of oil which is 10W-30W

Nissan ga15 engine idle adjustment locations


The idle speed is computer controled, it is not adjustable, you most likely have sludge in the throttle valve and the idle speed control air bypass valve, clean them with carb spray with the engine running.
