Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Got a 88 chev silverado 4x4 with a 350 was running fine then stalled thought it was out of fuel but now wont fire. Turns over but wont fire. Poured fuel into the carb and still wont fire. Old truck, new wires plugs look old any other suggestions? Almost seems like 1 or multiple cylinders are misfiring. Wants to fire just won't

SOURCE: 04 Jeep Liberty 3.7L Multiple misfire

Check the timing belt, tensioner, and the timing relationship of the crank to the cams. The cams never slip to each other but if the crank is off 2 or 3 teeth it will cause this. At 4 teeth off, only one cyl will fire.

If you have someone scan it with a scan tool that gives you data stream they can tell you exactly what cylinder is doing it. You might have a bad coil or wire.

SOURCE: Rough idle at low rpm

Give it a compression check and if all within spec or the same then come back to me and we can take it from there...it sound like a simple problem.

SOURCE: Number one cylinder misfiring.

Check and replace your timing belt, although it is probably not the culprit, I have seen a tooth missing from a worn timing belt cause misfiring.

It is probably the Crankshaft Position Sensor, or the Camshaft Position Sensor causing the misfire.

Check for a shorted sensor. Try disconnecting the coolant temp sensor, they ussually go bad creating these problems (even when the gauge works fine). Also, you can check ignition timing.

Just a hunch, is the SECURITY light illuminated somewhere on the dash when it wont start? If so, you have the anti theft shutting down your fuel injectors. Heres a link with info and solutions if this ends up being your problem. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

1992 olds 88 stalls. after it sits for a half

Is the Service Engine Soon (or Check Engine) light illuminated on the instrument panel? If so, then have someone pull the codes and post them back here. Autozone will do this for you at no cost.Caution: don't purchase any parts after reading the codes on their recommendation! If no codes, then suspect either a bad crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor. There are other possibilities too, but these are primary. I have seen MANY bad crank sensors do exactly what your describe without setting a code.

Ok my 88 beretta is having stallin issues,it will

Buy a code reader or borrow one if you have a friend that has one. Sounds like ICM (Igniton Control) Or if it isnt fire then try fuel filters. Could even be water in the fuel. hard call without inspecting it
