Question about Cars & Trucks
When key is turned to start there is a loud clunk and it wont start. Sounds like something jamming
I would pull out the starter and see what I could find, either the starter or the fly wheel. If you remove the starter you can look at the fly wheel and the starter. Good luck

the steering wheel SHOULD be locked if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the 1st position. If you can turn the steering wheel more than an inch or so without the key n the first position, the ignition switch (read: thingy you put the key in) is bad.
Sometimes you may have to move the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other to get the key to turn, this in itself is not a cause for alarm. Try it and let us know. If this doesn't work, you are probably looking at a couple hundred dollars parts and labor to get the switch/steering wheel lock mechanism fixed.
Please rate all solutions.

dealer only to re programme key into car it can only be done with vehicle, not away from it .Sorry for no easy fix unless you want to disengage the factory immobiliser, which if its a diesel is a fairly simple procedure but not for a petrol engine

SOURCE: unsure what the ECT button is
ECT power is an option that allows you to make the transmission stay in a lower gear for a longer period of time to allow the engine to "wind out" more. the higher the RPM for any given gear, the more power you can get to the wheels. it makes for quicker acceleration if the trans. shifts later.

CHECK THE STARTER.MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOOSE.IF ALL IS GOOD.THEN THE STARTER COULD BE BAD.IT COULD HAVE WORN DRIVE GEARS OR THE FLYWHEEL COULD HAVE WORN OR BROKEN TEETH.IF YOU REMOVE STARTER TO CHECK IT AND FLY WHEEL MAKE SURE TURN OFF RADIO SO YOU WONT LOSE PLAYING CODE.WHEN YOU REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
