There is no relay for the starter system on an 86 prelude only a starter solenoid. There is a 10ga wire directly from the battery to the starter solenoid which is attached to the starter motor make sure there is 12V at the starter solenoid. There is also a Bl/W wire that sends a signal to the starter solenoid when the key is turned to activate the starter. If you send voltage to the Bl/W wire the starter should engage and start the car. if not you need a new starter solenoid. If it does start make sure you check the #14 fuse it is a 10A fuse under the dash on the left hand side in the little white box with only three fuses the other two are 15A. If the fuse is good and 12V is there when you turn the switch you need to check the wire. If you do not have 12V check the 65amp metal plate fuse under the hood on the passenger side. This fuse provides 12V to the ignition switch and is the white wire going to the switch. If this fuse is good you will have to pull the ignition switch and make sure the white wire have 12V if it does then you need a new ignition switch. Otherwise the wire is broke and you need to find the break. Hope this helps.

DOES THE CAR SOUND LIKE IT WANTS TO TURN OVER AT ALL?

Why are you having to jump it? Bad battery...too weak....weak battery not supplying enough juice to the starter to turn the motor over....

97 chevy suburban AC clutch won't engage pressures

Looks like the low pressure switch gets power from a 10amp ac fuse. Power then goes to the ac relay which is powered on by the ac heat controller on the dash. Power then goes thru the high pressure switch to the compressor. The ac relay is grounded to the body. Do you have power on the lite and dark green wires going into the relay and is it grounded ?

My car runs fine for days then i'll park somewhere and go to turn it back on and it won't start at all. It won't turn over or anything.

CHECK BATTERY CONNECTIONS, STARTER CONNECTIONS, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT DOESN'T START, TO GET IT GOING AGAIN, DO YOU GET A JUMP START IF SO CHECK CONNECTIONS.

Switch is on, turn key, no signal to starter, no click no contack

COMMON CAUSES OF NO-CRANK NO-START

Low battery (Check battery voltage, recharge if low, or jump start with another vehicle or battery charger).
Loose or corroded battery cables (Inspect, clean and tighten BOTH ends of BOTH battery cables).
Bad starter relay wiring connections or ground connection (Inspect, clean, tighten wiring connections).
Bad starter relay/solenoid (Check for voltage at relay, if relay has voltage but there is no "click" when key is turned to start, replace relay).
Bad starter (Jump battery voltage direct to starter to see if it spins, or remove starter and have it bench tested at auto parts store).
Damaged starter drive or teeth on flywheel (Remove starter and inspect drive gear and flywheel teeth, replace damaged parts if necessary).
Bad ignition switch (Check to see if voltage reaches starter relay/solenoid when turn to start. If not, check for open P/N switch and brake or clutch pedal switch. Replace ignition switch if defective).
Open P/N safety switch, or open Brake Pedal Safety Switch (automatic transmission) or open Clutch Pedal Switch (manual transmission). Bypass switch with jumper wire to see if engine cranks, or use test light or voltmeter to check for voltage passing through switch when ignition is turned to start.
Engine seized due to bearing failure or internal damage (Use socket and long handle to see if engine can be turned by hand, if not engine is locked up).
Engine hydrolocked due to coolant leak from leaky head gasket (Use socket and wrench to see if engine rotates, remove spark plugs and see if coolant comes out or engine can not be cranked with plugs out).

Won;t crank

Hi, if the car engine fails to crank, there is a fault in one of the components in the battery/ignition/starter circuit. Low battery (Check battery voltage, recharge if low, or jump start with another vehicle or battery charger). Bad starter relay/solenoid (Check for voltage at relay, if relay has voltage but there is no "click" when key is turned to start, replace relay). Bad ignition switch (Check to see if voltage reaches starter relay/solenoid when turn to start. If not, check for open P/N switch and brake or clutch pedal switch. Replace ignition switch if defective).

My engine does not start like there is a battery problem... but the battery hase a full charge. i replaced the starter and silanoid but nothing. there is a small relay next to the battery that clicks one...

hi..
the problem seems to be with the realy which clicks when you try to start. when you start this relay sends the signal to the starting motor and rotates the flywheel. due to the damage of this relay no signal is going. so please change the relay and try it wil work.

Replaced starter relay but truck still will not start. Will start if I jump the relay. What else could the problem be.

The starter relay is energized by the ignition switch, through either the neutral safety switch, or the clutch safety switch.
