Question about 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

I have a 97 s-10 p/u. Check engine light stays on. I have replaced fuel cap, 2 modules under the truck around the gas tank. I have replaced the map sensor. The code reads something in the evac system. I can clear the light and in 75 to 100 miles the light will come back on. Inspection is due this month and don't know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated. I am told by some mechanic friends it is not the oxygen sensor.

Gas cap indicaytor light came on. Changed cap and made sure it was tight but indicator light still comes on

The gas cap light is a generic light that indicates an emission problem. Usually a vacuum/pressure leak within the system. The gas cap is usually the first thing to check, however may not be the problem. There are numerous sensors and lines that control the vacuum/pressure/ of the fuel vapors and one of these is loose/disconnected/defective causing this light to come on. I would recommend inspecting hoses under the hood for any that may be loose/disconnected. You may also require a scan test to view sensor data to isolate the source of the light

The other day on the dashboard of my "2006 Pontiac G5 2.2L engine" a message came on telling me to check gas cap so I did, so I replaced the gas cap with proper new cap. message still came back on the

Flooring it would cause change in ride / weight position of vehicle ---Gas in Tank moved / Sloshed around .. EVAP Hose that Vents gas odours to atmoshere when hot weather creates fumes / pressure Could Be Plugged ..MAYBE Early warning of Fuel Pump Failure so keep car under 1/2 tank an save alot of grief #@%^&*%$ IF this pump fails ..Fuel rail pressure ++ flow consistancy can be test at fuel rail port by gauge { autozone - O riellys } will also show weak injector when engine floored .

Check fuel cap light staying on after I replaced it with a new one from the dealer. It is a 2002 Ford Escort Any suggestions:

Is the check engine light on also ?
The gas cap light comes on when the computer tries to vent the gas tank and finds a leak. The leak can be the gas cap or in the line from the tank to the vapor canister, among other things.

Check the fuel pressure regulator.Pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel regulator and check for fuel inside hose.If you find fuel replace regulator. Also check map sensor for fuel.

My check engine light came on code P0446; dashboard says "check gas cap" i took it off retightened it and check engine light still on. I noticed that the metal flap for the gas nozzle is...

The metal flap should not trigger the sensor. Once you tighten the gas cap you should clear the code and see if it comes back. Otherwise it will take a while to go away.
If it does come back even though the gas cap is tight it could be the rubber seal around the gas cap replacing that can sometimes fix this issue also.

I have a Dodge Dakota quad cab-magnum V-8. It started at 77,000 miles with trying to start it and it turned over lots before it would crank. Mechanic says he put 3 different fuel pumps in it but still does...

Yes , it's probably the gas cap - the valve in it is stuck shut so the tank gets under vacuum when you start the engine, lowering the fuel flow. Just replace the cap.

check both filters first, should be on on top, and one under frame, if replaced both, its probably your fuel pump

Gas gauge not working property

Pontiac has a problem with the sender for the fuel guage. A quart of transmission fluid in a full tank of gas usually fixes it. The "engine" light, won't be on because of that. Quite often that is the air filter or fuel cap.
