Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

I have a oil leak and it's coming from the housing that the oil filter is connected to, and it is a 98 5.0 and i believe it has a oil cooler. Does anyone know what the whole unit is called?

Oil leak at the oil filter housing

The housing is a hard part, you most likely just need the mounting seal.

How do you remove the oil cooler on a 94 camry with the 4 cylinder

Do you mean remove the radiator? Most 4 cyl Camrys do not have an oil cooler. Details are here, p250

The plastic top tank of the radiator in Camrys can develop a crack when older. Look carefully in that area.

How do i repair oil filter housing leak?

The oil is most likely leaking from the oil cooler seal. The oil cooler is the square aluminum piece that the oil filter screws onto. To replace the seal, remove the filter, remove both coolant hoses that attach to the cooler, remove the nut that secures the cooler to the block and slide the cooler off the tube. Replace the rubber o-ring seal which is available at the VW dealer. It's inexpensive. Replace everything in reverse order. Good luck!

While putting on the hoses one of the hoses connect to the oil filter housing and it moved slightly but enough for oil to leake do i need to replace a gasket or can i turn it back the other way and solve...

there is a rubber seal behind the oil cooler(that is where the hose connects) the best thing would be to remove the oil filter and oil cooler to replace the seal. I would at least remove the oil filter and try to tighten the large nut that holds the oil cooler on and see if that stops the oil leak

i believe you are looking at the oil cooler, replacing the gasket is not that difficult, drain the radiator, remove the oil filter and it should be 4 bolts and the whole assembly comes off, keep in mind though its more common for the oil filter itself to be leaking rather than the oil cooler gasket.
