U will have a fault code stored in the computer from the OD light blinking, find out what it is and you will know where to look for the trouble with the trans, but if it is slipping it will at the very least need a fluid change and inspection for clutch debris in trans pan, then u can decide what will need to be done.

96 ford exsplorer 4wd blinking lights

If after driving a little bit the 4wd light starts blinking then I believe one (or both) of your HALL sensors are bad or have picked up some metal filings.

I believe the light is blinking because your GEM computer doesn't think both driveshafts are going the same speed.

I think one of your HALL sensors is fooling the GEM into thinking one of the driveshafts is stopped all the time

When you are stopped the computer thinks everything is OK (because the other driveshaft is stopped also)

When you are moving the GEM tries to get both driveshaft spinning the same speed but the sensor isn't responding

It takes 5 minutes to change the rear sensor (you have to cut the old one off and splice in the new one. Sealing the splice with liquid electrical tape)

The front sensor is hardr becasue you have to remove the shift motor on the transfer case

also for the 4wd system there is a TOD(torque on demand relay) that might be bad

Od light blinking

A blinking OD light on a Ford Explorer means that there has been a fault detected in the transmission operation, a common one is excessive slippage detected between input and output turbine shaft speed sensors, this can be a slipping trans, you may not even fell it, but it is indeed slipping, but lets not get ahead here, go to the Ford dealer and have a system trouble code scan run of the on board, this will reveal the trouble code that the blinking light has set in the computer control for the transmission and give direction to what the cause is. Automatic trans slips 92 ford explorer

I would have the transmission check if you plan on keeping the car a long time. The lucas oil is an additive for the oil. The additive is making the fluid a little heavier and tricking the soleniods or clutch and bands with a different pressures.

This is a temporary fix. The transmission over time is going to start to slip more and more.

I have a 99 suburban transmission stops like it goes into neutarl

Does it do this just in overdrive or drive too? Sounds to me like trans. is on its way out. have you thought about trying a trans. additive might help, your only out the price of the additive.
