Question about Cars & Trucks
Hi, I'm actually looking 4 a second opinion. Sent my car 2 my insurers mechanic with front end steering damage from hitting a gutter, when they bought it back they told me the battery was dead and that it was currently not starting because of that.. But i have since had 2 hav it 2 an auto elec's and then 2 the holden dealership where i bought the car to now find out my origanal and only car key had de-coded itself and as a result the immobilizer engaged, they hav now fixed the problem by replacing the key (i think) or re-coding the origanal 1 which when put in ignition and turned de-activated immobilizer, The question i hav is, How is it possible 4 my key 2 do that?? What could b the cause/causes? I am very confused by it all thanks Julie m

it means its due for service. If u wanna get rid of it without servicing the vehicle then as you start the car simultaneously push the ODOMETER reset button on the dash and it will wipe it. This will however just delay the point your car needs servicing.

I dont know if holden barina uses the same stereo as a US GM vehicle, but if it is a delco stereo (same as US models) then any gm dealer can retrieve the scrambled code and call their automated system to get the unscrambled unlock code. Just make sure if they do this for you to have them disable the theftlock system. With theftlock disabled a dead battery will not cause you any further problem. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: '97 A4 1.8T, coolant leak resulted in brief overheat,leak fixed,diag.code now shows #2 cyl.missing (badly), compression good,injectors good,coils/plugs good,missing badly,could the brief overheat have
did the car over heat for long?
there could possibly be damage to your head like warping due to overheating and blowing a head gasket or something along those lines .
first check the oil dipstick is it milky?
then check the coolant is it oily?
and when it is running is it blowing any white smoke?
if you replaced the plugs and it is misfiring did you plug the wire all the way back on the plugs if not then the problem is a plug wire being loose and loosing connection with the plug.
sounds like a simple fix if you don't have water in your oil or white smoke coming out the exhaust.
troubleshooting it can be a bigger job but if you nail the right symptoms down you can corner the problem.
like if it is a coil pack or bad wire switch them with another one and see if the problem follows the wire or coil pack.for instance take the number one plug wire off and the number two wire off and put the number one wire on number two and see if the number one misfires. if so then the wire is the problem if not then try numbers three and four until you find out which cylinder is the culprit.
good luck and happy hunting.

SOURCE: Car won't start
If there is a blinking car icon with an "X" over it. This icon means the Immobilizer has been activated and hence won't allow the car to start. It could be due to a bad SCU, Start Control Unit. The SCU is actually the ignition switch on these cars.
Most of the time it's triggered by the anti-theft system..You can try this trick i learned that the dealers won't tell you...try locking and unlocking of the doors five times with the remote to reset the immobilizer and see if this helps.
Good luck...i hope this helps...please take a minute to rate me a fixya.
