2002 merc cougar transmission fluid backpressure

The transmission blows fluid back out the fill tube i and have to put a quart a day in it. All parts stores say that the transmission has to be disassembled to replace the filter and none sell it. I was told there is a pressure valve that may be clogged but i have no idea if it even has one or were it would be located. any suggestions??

Are you checking the trans fluid when its hot? It will blow the fluid out when its over full.

Yes. I have torn apart and fixed so many cougars. So listen, cause I know what I'm talking about. Remove your battery and the black plastic cover your battery sits on and you should now be able to see through the bottom of your battery box to the side case on the transmission. On the top of this side cover case there is black hose that allows the transmission to vent coming out of the case. Well yours is pinched or plugged. You're welcome.

I have a 2002 2.0 liter manuel mercury cougar and it just lost all of the transmission oil. How do I refill it with new transmission oil. And how many quarts does it take to fill it up?

The transmission must be filled by the dealer using special tools and procedures. It is a sealed unit. Why did you loose all the fluid, need that fixed first.

How much transmission fluid do i put in my mitsubishi montero sport 2002 3.0l v6 wheres the best place to buy the fluid?

You need 9.8 quarts of Dexron III or later, for a dry fill. A wet service fill will be less, about 6-7 quarts. Autozone or any other auto spares outlet will have it.

Where is the transmission dip stick on a 2002 thunderbird

You do not have one

The fluid level is checked at 180 degrees or more,
by removing the 1/4" pipe plug in the center of the
trans pan drain plug, with a T30 Torx Bit, I think it is

If you were to remove the drain plug some day, to drain
the fluid, you would see a tube extending up from it
That tube determines the fluid level,as any extra drains out

You need a special plastic container to blow the fluid in

I don't use the hole I'm referring to, to fill it,you can

I remove the tail housing 3/8" pipe plug & blow the
fluid in there

Where does on put in transmition fluid?

Before you put transmission fluid in, make sure it needs it. Check the transmission fluid with vehicle warm, engine running, emergency brake set and transmission in neutral. Pull the dipstick and wipe it off. Insert the dipstick back into the dipstick tube completely and then pull it back out. The fluid level should be between the two marks on the bottom of the dipstick. If it needs fluid pour the fluid into the dipstick tube (using a funnel). Only add about 1/2 quart of fluid at a time before you recheck it. Do not over fill the fluid.

Transmission light on, but no problems with the transmission, is the fluid low?

Hard to know. You fill it to the fill mark. If it is 2 quarts low, put 2 quarts in it. 1 pint, add 1 pint.
