Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I may have knocked something loose when replacing the starter
If it cranks but won't start, and all of the wires are back on the starter, you'll need to check for spark and fuel pressure as with any no start situation.
Is the security light on ?

SOURCE: engine want crank
an IC (internal combustion ) engine is dependent on the spark timing for initial start (crank).here since most of it was remanufactured , the spark timing is at fault.
TIME the spark a few degrees before TDC and see the difference .i hope this solves your problem.

I seem to have the same problem. With the ignition, the car wont start, but if i turn to on and complete the circuit under the car on the starter, it starts right up. The weird thing is that it starts in neutral. changing the stick does nothing. Makes me think the sensor or cable on my shifter is bad. Maybe your ignition wont start the engine because it is not reading ur car is in park? anyhow, thought id drop my 2 cents.

If there were no codes present upon initial inspection, check for fuel pressure and replace the pump if nothing or little is present. This is most likely with no codes. Also replace the filter. Let me know if you need instructions on pump replacement.

SOURCE: engine cranks and is getting
The timing is out . you can check this by getting #1 to TDC, pull the cap off and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing to the # 1 cylinder. Gas engine
