SOURCE: 98 gmc sonoma w 2 pc drive shaft 2wd noise from

remove the rear shaft from a 1990 full size gmc van (g-van) make sure the one you select has the scew on sleeve at the front of the rear section of the shaft
this will be the right lenght
take the rear yolk off your old shaft cut of the ball socket now get the same u-joint your truck calls for and mount the rear yolk (the section of the shaft that bolts to your rear end) to the new shaft
this works ive done it
you eliminate 2 of the 4 u-joints and lighten up your shaft this releives strain on you tranny and rear end when these u-joints and ball bearings fail they cause the vibrations which ruin the rest of your drive train also you gain 10hp
i spent 300 bucks rebuilding the OEM shaft and got no where so for 25 bucks i did this

it may be easier to attach the breaker bar to the tensioner arm from under the vehicle to relieve belt tension

  1. On 1994-97 2.2L engines and 1994-96 4.3L engines, using a 1/2 in. breaker bar and if necessary, with a socket placed on the tensioner pulley bolt, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve the belt tension. On some 2.2L engines it may be easier to attach the breaker bar to the tensioner arm from under the vehicle.
  2. On 1998-99 2.2L engines and 1997-99 4.3L engines, using a 3/8 in. breaker bar, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve the belt tension. On some 2.2L engines it may be easier to attach the breaker bar to the tensioner arm from under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the serpentine belt.
To install:
  1. Route the belt over all the pulleys except the tensioner.
  2. Place the breaker bar and if necessary the socket, on the tensioner pulley bolt and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to the released position.
  3. Install the belt and return the pulley slowly to its original position. Do not let the pulley snap back into position as this may damage the belt and pulley.
  4. Check that the belt is properly seated in each pulley.

On the base of the wiper arm there is a lever,using a flat head screw driver pry it outward,then use screw driver to pry on opposite side of where the arm joins the base,to come off even.

U R GONNA NEED A FIELER GUADGE AND THE VALVE LASH SPEC REMOVE THE VALVE COVERS AND INSERT THE GUADGE BEWEEN THE ROCKER ARM AND VALVE SPRING AND TORQUE TO SPEC OR TAKE OFF VALVE COVER TAKE TWO PIECES OF CARDBOARD CUT THEM TO LENGTH OF THE HEAD INSERT ON TI THE HEAD SO U DONT SPASH OIL START TRUCK AND TURN EACH ROCKER UNTIL YOUR NOISE GOES AWAY BUT DO NOT OVER TORQUE U WILL KNOW THE ENGINE WILL BOGG DOWN

are these adj rockers? if so then take the nut down till you have about 1/4 in bolt sticking above it, then see if it will start, if it does then back each rocker off till it starts clicking then tighten till it stops clicking then go another1/4 turn thats your running adjustment!!!

Need 1998 gmc sonoma diagram for 2.2 or 2.3 motor


the 2.2 engine top bolts from left to right is 8-4-1-5-9-your bottom bolts left to right is 7-3-2-6-10 this is your torque sequence.you need to use bolt thread sealer.wait 15 minutes before putting bolts in. you torque 46 ft lbs long bolts 43 ft lbs for short bolts.then you make second pass on all bolts tighten them additional 90 degrees using a torque angle meter.

rockers get 22 ft. lbs.
lower intake gets 27, then 106, then 134 inch lbs
upper intake gets 44, then 80 inch pounds
