Shop rate is 125 to 200 an hour, Nissan has a book that is proprietary and it lists times for all jobs that they have to do. So they are going to quote you a price that has to do with that book. It might not take that long to do but they still charge you for the recommended time plus shop supplies and parts. So you are looking at about 300 dollars. If that is all they are going to do.

SOURCE: My 2004 Nissan Quest SE has 92,000 miles. Car

If I got $ 800.00 every time I replaced spark plugs and plug wires I would be living on a tropical island !
The almost stalling may not even be about spark plugs, which by the way are about $6.50 at any auto parts store.
I would think you should have a check engine light coming on in the dash, or at least have someone plug a scan tool in to retrieve any codes.
Find a reliable auto center, and have them take a look.
Please let me know what you find.

COST OF OIL CHANGE, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, SPARK PLUGS AND STARTER

oil change = 39.95 w/coupon (jiffy lube) +10 for filter

starter cost= 105$ plus an 1.5 hr labor to install + 15$ core charge
cap/wires/plugs = 110$ plus hour of labor to install
labor is typically 90 to 110 an hour

yes cars are expensive to maintain

its allways a good idea for one to develop a trusting relationship with there autos mechanic , if you don't feel you can trust them you need to find one that you can , ask questions , ask to see old parts , any mechanic that's honest/good in his work will show you those parts and even explain what they do

Blown head gasket

Well it would really depend on the condition of your engine.
It would take more labor to repair your engine than it would to just replace it. But unless the engine is very damaged it should be cheaper to have your engine fixed. And replacing the head gasket and having the head repaired should be under the price you were given. A head gasket set for a 4 cyl engine is around $100 wholesale.
I would call around and check with other shops next.

Intake manafold gasket

If you are just talking about the cost of the gaskets there is kind of an upper (plenum) and a lower intake set. If you just need the plenum gasket they are only about 30 dollars. If you need the entire set there are a couple of option. Just a regular set runs you about 70 (that's both the upper plenum and lower intake manifold but FelPro puts out a great gasket set called "permadry" and the runs about 165 dollars. If you were looking for labor cost it depends on the hourly labor rate of the shop you are using. The labor guide says that if you are replacing both upper & lower it shows 3.4 hours in labor. If it's just the plenum it says 2 hours of labor. Hope this is what you are looking for and by the way I am going by the most common engine found for the Windstar for that year and that engine is a 3.8 liter. If you happen to have the 3.0 the prices and labor hours may be different.

I have two broken exhaust manifolds. what kind of costs should i expect

Two broken manifolds are caused by engine mount problems. The engine had to be rocking in the mounts substantually to break both manifolds. The parts and labor for the engine mount repair if needed is not listed but can easily run $300.00 in addition to the costs below depending on the number of mounts required and equipment to be disconnected for engine mount replacement.

Here is just the Manifolds estimate:
Estimate Includes: Labor: $478 - $609

Parts:
$170 - $1067

Estimates exclude applicable taxes, diagnostic charges, disposal fees, and miscellaneous expenses.

Intake gasket repair cost

Labor rates differ in different parts of the country. I can tell you this though; the labor guide says it takes 4.3 hours to do the job so depending on the labor rate at the shop that should give you that cost. as far as parts your not looking at much. I would guess that the intake gasket will run you around $20.00 and then you will need antifreeze as well. I assume you have a 2.4 liter engine because that's the one I looked up. I think all the models only came with that engine for that year. I hope this helped and good luck.

If your timing belt breaks some of the valves will stay open and the pistons will come up and either break the valve or could put a hole in a piston. This is very costly. The rattle could be the belt tensioner

Nissan Altima 2000 - Engine oil leaking problem.

replace the front oil seal. first i would clean the engine with purple power (degrease etc.) then look at the engine and make sure the leak is not coming from above like possibly the valve cover gasket or from the oil sending unit. try to tighten the bolts on the valve cover and even the oil pan. you never know, you may get lucky. i don't know where you are but front seals are cheap but the labor on the job is what costs you.
