You probably blew a fuse.
Look under the hood for the fuse box and check the BIG fuses.

When you put the jumper cables on, put the key in the drivers door lock and unlock the door to deactivate the factory alarm.

Check the wire harness around the Throttle body, what your looking for is may be a bad Throttle Position Sensor. The sensor could be warn at the spot and not sending a signal to the PCM. To add some light at the end of the tunnel, best thing to do is get the Jeep scanned for any DTC codes. Auto Zone scan for free and most Auto Garage charge any where from $10.00 to $20.00 to hook up the scanner since they want your business.
Here is a link that i hope will help you out and there are links that may help you retrieve some codes your self which is a plus for Chrysler products.
Good luck and hope this helps.http://www.allpar.com/fix/stallml.ht

Check your battery cables. Remove them and clean the contacts, if the ends are replacements take them apart and clean. Use a wire brush or sand paper. Make sure you remove the negative first and reinstall it last. Also check the battery and fuse links. Your problem is in there some where the battery, cable ends, cables, or a fuse link. If still no start let me know the results and we can go from there if need be.

Testimonial: "Ron, thanks for the help. I had already done what you had listed. I cannot figure out how it could work and then not work 20 seconds later "
SOURCE: 08 Jeep Patriot will not
Stay the right position in P shift and check the Neutral Position switch, sometimes this device need be adjust.
If even dont work, could sound like a problem with the security system module; its possible that you recently disconnected the battery and the is system armed?
Also, you could be having a problem with the spark plugs or your battery could be an issue; starter motor is making a reving noise, but is it revving and engaging? Can you clearly hear that the engine is turning over, or is the starter revving (whirring) without actually engaging the engine?
Keep us updated.
