Could be a number of simple problems. one is your temperature sensor...if it fails it wont turn on your coolant fans. 2nd is your coolant level might be low...if its low then the hot coolant wont be able to "come in contact" with the coolant temp sensor thus result in over heating...i doubt its fan failure as it is highly unlikely that BOTH fans would fail at the same time. however it is possible. lastly is electrical to both fans has failed...put a tester into the connector (not into the fan) and start the car....let it warm up...as it get too hot the voltage should suddenly be there...if not...then the fans are not getting power and you have electrical issues. may have to trace the wires and find out if they got damaged by a belt...the fan or other moving part... i hope this helps you out

Check the fuses and the wiring going to the fan to see if you have power cause normally both do not go out at the same time

My 1997 dodge neon sohc is overheating while ideling but goes back to normal when running the fans are running even when ideling and there is anti freeze

So the car only overheats at idle? How many miles on the car? What fan are you referring to - the heater fan or the cooling fan for the radiator? It sounds like you may have a plugged up radiator. If the engine has high mileage the radiator may have accumulated enough junk over the years to become restricted. Some automotive technicians have a laser that they can use to check the radiator for cool spots, which would indicate internal blockage.

1998 neon keeps overheating mostly when idleing...the theromostat has been replaced twice and radiator replaced about 1 year ago

is the cooling fan working when it should be.if so then you could have a water pump problem or a head gasket problem.
