Question about 1992 Buick LeSabre
Ok ran a code reader it said code 42 could be electronic spark timing circuit open or shorted to ground during engine run or direct igmition system bypass circuit open or shorted to ground during engine run or fuel cutoff relay circuit open or shorted to ground. what does all this mean
In your case you have direct ignition since your engine does not use a distributor. There is an ignition module that takes data from the cam and crank sensors to decide when to fire the coils.
There is a problem in the circuit of the module that manages spark timing. The module is what the coils are bolted to.
The module and harness would need to be tested, which requires a shop manual for the procedures.

Fuel filter could be plugged, or fuel injector is leaking. You can check fuel pump relay with an ohmmeter to see if it's good.

On 3.8 engines I have seen problems with the cam and crank sensors - also the harmonic balancer and the magnet on the cam gear.
You might want to take a look at those issues too.
