94Metro Has a bad vibration at idle, gets worse in gear stopped

1994 Geo Metro 1.0L, A/T, A/C. At idle the engine vibrates horribly and when it goes into gear the vibration gets worse. Giving the car a little gas makes the vibrations stop. This engine is a rebuild and was swapped in. I have done this swap before and it has always been successful. This time I got the vibrations. Any Help would be appreciated.

Hello. i have a 94 geo and the timing belt broke. when i replaced it , it had 2 timing marks on the top gear so i picked one. mine runs exactly like you are saying and i found out that i picked the wrong mark. the mark with 60 on it is for the 3 cylinder and the mark that has 80 on it is for 4 cylinders. you may pull your plastic cover off and check it. hope it helps.

Check all motor mounts first. if they are ok then check to make sure all cylenders are firing. try pulling one plug wire off the spark plug and see if the engine changes sound or anything. if it does, put the wire right back on then move to the next one and repete. if you pull one and it does not change then that plug is not firing. could be caused by a crack in the porcelian in the plug or bad plug wire connection or bad wire

VIBRATION

This is caused by the fluid-filled motor mounts and transmission mounts. You are probably right in they have dried out and may need to have the fluid topped up.

Have 2002 outback with bad vibration on gear , the engine runs good , I did replaced all mounts , still the same problem, help please.

I concur with anon263. When we replaced driver-side axle with an aftermarket one, the vibration was horrible. Most people around me would not believe that was the cause, but as soon as we replaced it with a Subaru OEM rebuilt axle, the vibration disappeared. Get a new one from Subaru if you can afford it. Here's hoping the rebuilt one will last, although some out there have said that it may cause other problems down the line, most likely just because it won't last as long as a new one. The aftermarket axles, with exception of MW, are off just enough in their designs and spline size to allow harmonic vibration to transfer from the engine to the wheel and then your steering wheel when you are stopped at a stop sign and still in gear. The vibration usually goes away when you put it in neutral or park. In my case, I even thought I detected some strange vibration when driving.

Engine idling rough on park and rear gear

There is no TSBs for rough idle and the term rough idle can be taken two ways one is like a vibrating idle which is motor mounts wore out. The other is a slight miss in engine and there are are quit a few reasons fot that but the most comon reason is a vacuum leak. But the way you described you problem park and reverse I leaning more torwards a bad motor mount due to a vaccum leak would also do it in drive.

Vibration on the engine, change motor mount all

Check the idle control system, also check if all the injectors are working. Provided you already changed the spark plugs.

1994 ford escort vibrates horribly in idle, does not stall. Idle is set @ 800rpm, runs smooth when raised to about 1200rpm. Suggestions?

Your Idle air control valve is probably going bad. It is located on the throttle body and is a relatively easy fix as it is only held in with 2 screws. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!

Bad vibration engine trans under load

seems your problem is within your clutch, defective part, usually a defective release bearing will cause gear shifter and pedal vibration but not as bad as yours, but by pressing on clutch pedal vibration stops, point to clutch!

Vibration when in gear, and stalling.

The problem is the torque converter solenoid. I had it happen on my 94 Cavalier a few years back and was a cheap fix at the local car mechanic. What happens is the transmission warms up and hits a certain speed where the solenoid engages, but then it sticks and won't disengage until it cools down sufficiently. When it sticks, it causes the car to shake when slowing down and will snub out the engine if you come to a stop.
