My trans is 3 speed i want 3speed with overdrive what do i need

Three speed or four speed automatic ?

What does the dash indicator say and does the stick have an od button on it? there is only 1 3 speed for the 460 and only 1 4speed for the 460

Need number off trans Is it a top load shifter goes right into trans or side linkage. If it is a side linkage 3 speed with overdrive (4 speed) it is a A833/Overdrive 4 (no granny gear just normal 1st gear) Otherwise it's a top load NP435 or NP445 the last two are HD units Your truck is 2wd with a 225 (3.7L) slant six and your the 7th owner

i do believe that there is a detent cable from the throttle body to the governor in the transmission check and see that its not broke or out of adjustment just to be sure that it does have a cable and not a solenoid just google ur make and model and u should be able to find information that u need

more shifters have two plates in it new to choice the trans you have a 3 speed or 3 speed and overdrive,being a 1980 vette,u have a350 or 400 turbo trans, e-mail the shifter manifactor to order a plate for the shifter, hope this helps

3 speeds ,plus overdrive. May need a good trans shop to ck it out for you, stay away from any Chain Store trans shop.

No not likely. Is the 3-4 shift rough? What speed are you going when it shifts into 4th? It likely just needs the T.V. cable adjusted.

if you are talking about the trans no! the 2wd trans has a longer output shaft than the 4x4 you can have the shaft changed so that it can work if you are having trouble finding a trans.

transmission shift solenoid is stuck open this is a common vehicle issue in automatics and not particular to any make or model vehicle 15 dollar part and arm and leg for labor if taken in

heres an idea to try
take out the transmission filter and replace with new one make sure to take not of any metal debry in trans pan this indicates the trans had sheered its gears down and a trans rebuild is needed
the transfilter needs to be changed at a certain milage interval they can get clogged up
there is a kit you buy for your truck at any parts store
its an easy change hour of time unbolt trans pan unbolt trans filter and put new one in
kit comes with new seals less than an hour you can do it yourself

to overdrive you would feel a difference in shift badley if it was that something to keep in mind

sounds like a stuck valve. I'm still new to transmission stuff so I could be wrong. he could probably get a transmission rebuild book and maybe just do it himself. it would be the cheapest unless you knows someone
