Question about 1988 Pontiac Fiero

Fiero my car was broke down on the side of the road and this old man came to help me. turns out i had a vacume problem ( but i fixed that already)(and turns out my vacume regulator was not bolted down all the way so i was loseing preashure ) i thout the old man was puting fuel into my throdel body but he put it in the breather so now it starts but then shuts off

SOURCE: Replace regulator on driver's side window of a 2005 Sunfire

Depends, Front or rear door, power or manual regulator?

Here is the front side/power

  1. Lower the window to the three quarters down position.
  2. Remove the door trim panel.
  3. Remove the water deflector in order to access the window regulator.
  4. Remove the window to regulator nuts (4).
  5. Push the window to the closed position and tape in place.
  6. Disconnect the regulator electrical connector.
  7. Removed the power window regulator bolts (3).
  8. Drill out the power window regulator rivets (2).
  9. Remove the power window regulator (5) from the door.

Sadly your car is very old. But the good news is scap yards keep so man parts off any type of old cars .. Check with a mechanic first for the problem first make sure what it is !! and then if it needs changing call around. Could be a wire problem to the fuse could be anything check it out first.

My 1985 Fiero is hard to start and when it starts it idols but when I put it in gear it goes dead ?? I put in a new Idol control valve and a new Throttle position sensor, I did notice when I put the TPS on...

try the fuel presure regulater it should be on the fuel rail ( that is if it is the V-6 ) it hasone vacum line on it and it has i think like 6 screws holding it in. it will cause just that same problem it will also cause it to flood at idle and foul plugs and make it idle rough you may have to chage the plugs also. you might check the vacum to. it should run on stright vacum from the intake.

You might also want to check your fuel filter and your fuel pump for proper operation before going on so that you dont spend more for uneccessary repairs.

Consistant rough idling in colder weather

Had sam eproblem. Gerage after gerage did not help at all. Stand infront of your car with bonnet open. On the lef hand side (standing infront of the car) between boddy an engine is a round black container, next to it is a small vacume switch, check the thin rubber pipes is conected, it can have a leak or like mine broke off. after fixing it my problem were solved. Ideling were up and down must be leaking vacume pipe. never bypass. if pipes is ok check and test vacume switch. Kia ideling is controlled by this small vacume switch !!!!! What a great car. the primary ignition system is ignition pick up coil and module.thy are both in distributor.check for 12 v at ignition coil positive when ign switch is on . if not you have wiring problem from switch to ciol
if o k have someone crank the engine and check the negative side of coil with a test light.if it does not flashes replace distributor.

1999 old bravada just quit running when going down the street?

Hey , check your ignition cord from the distributor cap to an ignition box. My blew off and caused the same problem. The connection could be corrorated if not blew off. I had to buy all the spark plug wires to get that exact wire ( only cost 20 dollars for set) but replaced and it fired right up. I also bought spark plugs and tuned it up as well. Thats also easy just remove your front tires and the plugs are right there man. Best 35 dollars I've spent in while.

Bogging down

I had a the same problem. You need to check the vacum lines from the top of the intake to the fire wall, the lines will dry an crack an are easily broke. I fixed mine for now with simple straws an duck tape but its back to running the way it should. My truck was hit an i had the problems afterward, i also had a problem with my brake being too stiff i couldn't even get the pedal halfway down when running but the truck ran like a scared dog, this is what lead me to the vacums. The master brake boster hose had been tore bout half an inch out from the intake an when parked ran fine, just while moving would shift an cause my problems, After fixing this i went on to check all my lines. An ALL the lines on top were cracked or broke in some way. Well hope i helped, best of luck
