Where is the egr valve on the V-6 Engine?

Not easy to see, but on drivers side of engine underneath intake manifold, so look for airflow intake tube, the larger air tube, and it is just below and to the firewall about middle of engine top to bottom. Hose comes out of it and two bolts hold it in, pretty easy to see once you know where it is located, but difficult to change. Sometimes just cleaning hose out will solve problem. Worth a try to buy EGR cleaner and spray and run a wire inside hose to loosen up carbon.

P 1401 location

Codes don't have a certain location, a code means a problem has occurred in a system of the electronics of the cars fuel control or emission control system.
P1401 NISSAN - EGR Temperature SensorPossible causes- EGR Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- EGR Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty EGR Temperature Sensor
- Malfunction of EGR function, EGRC-BPT valve or EGRC-solenoid valve
- Blocked EGR passages When is the code detected? An excessively low voltage from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) even when engine coolant temperature is low, or an excessively high voltage from the EGR temperature sensor is sent to ECM even when engine coolant temperature is high.
P1401 NISSAN Description The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor detects temperature changes in the EGR passage way. When the EGR valve opens, hot exhaust gases flow, and the temperature in the passage way changes. The EGR temperature sensor is a thermistor that modifies a voltage signal sent from the Engine Control Module (ECM). This modified signal then returns to the ECM as an input signal. As the temperature increases, EGR temperature sensor resistance decreases.
This sensor is not used to control the engine system. It is used only for the on board diagnosis

Egr valve malfunction

To check the EGR system operation bring the Engine up to operating temperature and, with the transmission in neutral (parking brake set and tires blocked to prevent movement), allow it to idle. Open the throttle so the engine speed is between 2000 and 4000 rpm and then allow it to close. The EGR valve stem should move if the control system is working properly. The test should be repeated several times. Movement of the stem indicates the control system is functioning correctly. If the EGR valve stem does not move. Check the vacuum signal to the EGR valve. Remove the hose from the valve, place your finger over the end of the hose and perform the procedure again. If no vacuum is present at the end of the hose check the hose connections to make sure they are not leaking or clogged, then check the EGR control solenoid. also check all hoses for cracks, kinks, broken sections and proper connections. I hope this will help you.

2000 Nissan Maxima dipping RPM's and no acceleration

No problems with EGR valves/system on this model car. Its located under the throttle body. Your valve is electronically controled by the ECM/Computer. Pretty bullet proof setup. What is the actual code number that autozone gave you?? Let me know the code number and will take it from there.
