Re: Remove the harmonic balancer without a puller?
You can try simply wiggling the balancer and see if you get lucky. A few taps with a rubber mallet may convince it to come free. Worst case get the kit. You should not need to remove the radiator. Do make sure that you have the engine blocked so you don't lose your timing mark placement.

remover the serpentine belt. Remove the water pump noting were each bolt came from for they are different in length. remove any hoses attach if there. Some models have hoses attached. . Use a gear puller to remove the harmonic balancer which can be rented at most auto parts stores. Gently pry the cover off
you may have the wrong puller to do the job. suggest you try an advance auto parts store and rent the right puller for the repair, all your money to rent the right tool will be refunded after the tools returned. the harmonic balancer should be removed easily with the right removal tool and a small ammount of wd40 sprayed onto the crankshaft behind and in front of the balancer onto the shaft. keep in mind that there is a half moon keeper key on the shaft where the balancer slides onto the crankshaft. lube the shaft well and it should slide off with ease with the removal tool. thank you for choosing fixya.com!!
first you will need to remove the belt. then you might have to remove the electric fan. (depending on what engine you have) then you will need remove the bolt from the harmonic balancer. i think its a 21 mm. then you need to get a harmonic balancer pulley puller. you can rent one at your local auto parts store. install the puller and remove the harmonic balancer. then put new one on by using the bolt. reinstall all components in reverse. this one is pretty easy to do. please rate thank you.
In order to remove your harmonic balancer, you will need a harmonic balancer puller. Most harmonic balancer pullers work and look the same. For your specific car it doesn't need a specific one. You can go and pick one up at your local auto parts store. You can either buy it or rent it, depending where you go. Hope this helps.
drain radiator and remove, remove all belts, remove outer pulleys from balancer then remove big center bolt from balancer ,make sure you use puller made to remove the balancer you can rent them at your local auto zone
1. Raise the car on the passenger side and remove the front wheel. 2. Remove the belts on the harmonic balancer. 3. Remove the retaining bolt. 4. With a puller, jack the harmonic balancer off of the crank shaft. You can rent a puller at your local auto parts store. It is easiest to access the harmonic balancer through the fender, hence the need to remove the wheel. 5. You should also consider replacing the seal around the harmonic balancer to minimize the possibility of a leak later. 6. Install the new harmonic balancer and tighten the retaining bolt to the specified torque (I don't know this off the top of my head). 7. Replace the belts and wheel, and voila...mission accomplished.
This was a short answer to your question. You may wish to consult a repair manual for illustrations, torque specifications, additional instructions, etc. This job is not for the faint of heart. Good luck!
First remove radiator fan shrould. This will give you access to the fan.Remove fan and fan belts.Remove bolt on harmonic balancer. You will need to rent a balancer remover and installer kit. Most big auto parts chains will rent these kits to you.Next remove four bolts holding pulley to balancer.Next attach balancer puller to balancer with long bolts from kit.Using a 1\2 drive breaker bar, remove balancer from engine. After removing balancer replace front seal.Lubricate hub on new balancer with engine oil. Then use installation tool from kit to install balancer.Never try to beat balancer on with hammer, engine damage could occur. Then work in reverse to replace remaining parts.Hope this will help you.
