a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

1993 geo tracker idle up and down

HOT ENGINE? (ill guess hot)
idle surges.(hunts) (very simple reasons or very hard to find.
the car has 2 engines. G16A and G16B
they work totally opposite, (8valve and 16v)
the vin number tells you the engine type ,digit 8 is engine code
6= G16B 16v
U= G16A 8v
i have factory book. its in chapter 0 these facts.
the cause of idle surge and hunt are:
1: ISC failures. the ISC can stick partially open and then hunts.
clean it and test it . see videos of how.
2: engine running so bad the ISC can nOT regulate idle speeds.

#2 is caused by up to 50 reasons.
8v , air leaks, cause racing idle and iSC goes nuts.
16v , all air leaks cause lean and if too lean the ISC goes nuts.

by nuts , i mean it hunts or gives up.

the list is endless, but the tests are basic,
i cant help you because no engine stated.

ISC = IDLES SPEED CONTROLER (a system not just a PART)

Engine surging idle

WOW no car stated, model or year, what a challenge.....!!!!!
or engine option, (gee )?
In pure generic answer mode. I say.....
Do you want us to take a wild guess , or show the tests.
there are only 2 paths one with tools and one with out.
without is hopeless.
for sure there are free tests... but we cant do that yet./

surging is a complex topic. !
it is caused by 100 of things (mostly air leaks)
but can be reduced to 2, (ASE rules)
1: ISC system has lost control of idle !! (lots of way, air leaks #1)
2; lean AFR.
AFR is air fuel ratio, if for any reason, any Otto cycle engine goes
lean, it will in fact surge like a mad dog.
even your lawn mower. (try it 1 time) some calif models do it out of the box, (long story) avoid PR of CAL.

1: let me explain, lean?, say the 02 (oxy)goes nuts and ECU goes lean.
the ISC system tries (it's a servo system. "magic")
ISC is the idle speed control system ( i major system )
the ECU tells ISC opens the valve, to raise idle. (too low RPM) and it fails.
so the ISC hunts the failure. over and over, and makes a lean surge even worst. ( really, it only has 2 choices, try again or give up)

air leaks.
if the air leak causes, lean (ADS) or races(SDS) the ISC
sees both of these errors, (RPM sensor)
it tries to correct it and if i can not , it may surge.
some just give up, others rail and freeze and some surge
all this depends on ECU software how it works in a failed stated.
so here is my useless list of common failures, its not a guess list.

1: air leaks to the plenum (that is the air space from the intake vavles all the way to the MAF if in fact you have a MAF.

ADS = Air density systems.
SDS= speed density system. no car started, i must assume you have 2 engines, (LOL)

that is my answer. give better inputs and answer go to max. better.

My Opel Corsa 1.4 (2008) has an inconsistant idling, the engine seems to be surging but does not die when idling. This is a 2008 model with ecotec engine.

idle control valve may be blocked. sits on the back of the intake carb. also lose intake top can give erratic ideling

Engine surge and idle problem the car surges when driving and will not idle longer than a minute unless i step on gas pedal I have gave it a fresh tune up, oil change, changed fuel filters and checked the...

If your jeep has an EGR valve, try removing it and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner. A bad EGR valve will cause surging while driving.
hope this helps

Try the idle air control valve since it raises the idle when you turn on a load to the engine.

2006 Taurus surges

Take your car into an Autozone. They do free engine diagnosis when the check engine light is on. They'll hook it up to a reader and it'll give them a code to cross reference. That'll at least let you know why your check engine light came on. I'm sure it has something to do with the surging as well. You'll at least have a better idea of where to begin looking.

Engine surges at rpm over 1500

Look for a vacuum leak (lines and intake), Is the engine light on, were any codes present? A faulty EGR or IAC could cause the problem too. Check the throttle cable for any restrictions.
