Question about 2002 Volvo S60
2002 Volvo S60 shifts normally from 1st to 2nd but will not engage 3rd or 4th gears. Problem just started one day while driving home it suddenly went into neutral. I suspect a shift solenoid or some sensor.
Facing the same issue. Don't understand the post about you loosing your gear change clips or cable as these are automatics. Anyways I am going for the shift solenoid in mine and If it is the issue I will share the outcome with you. If you have already found out why your was doing this I would love to know!

SOURCE: cannot shift properly
My Saturn did the same thing - twice. Where the clutch cables connects to the shifter box(??) there is a little clip that had fallen off. The first time this happened, the mechanic told me that I needed to replace the whole shifter box - costing me $400 dollars. The second time - about two years later a different mechanic charged me $15 for the clip and labor.

Your shifter cables have gona bad, i had the same problem and its not your clutch thats causing the problem. Your shifter cables are just worn out and you need to replace them

Purchase a gear shift repair kit for your car. They are pretty cheap. About 20 bucs. The ball and bushings are probably worn.

it sounds like you have 2 bad gears, 2nd gear may be fine for an hour or for ten years, theres no telling on that. your reverse gear is probably shelled out. your best bet is to rebould your transmission or buy a new one, sorry
