you will need a radio code to unlock radio. This can olnly done by the dealer unless you have you manual.

You will need the code. The code should be in the owners manual of the car itself or if you happen to have the seperate one for the radio. If you dont have the manuals some people will be lucky and have the code hidden under the carpet in the trunk either on the back of the door or where the spare tire is stored. Another option is to take the vin number and radio serial number to a VW dealer to have them look up the code for you. The radio serial number is in the most inconvenient location and will more than likely require you to remove the radio from the dash to see to the number.

Look on ebay, craigslist, and check local junk yards, nka auto recycling centers, and you will find many plain jane stock GM radios for sale cheap. i would stay away from the high end units as then you will be on here asking for instructions on how to reset the anti-theft codes.

I have this same issue, it is not code related, I have a code and the radio works just fine WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. As soon as the engine starts, the radio loses power, did you ever find a solution to this?

i had to take it in - they have to find the serial number on the bottom of the radio, then call it in to VW and they will give you the code.

Radio

My son has a 2004 Volkswagon Jetta that had a dead radio. It occurred after my daughter -in- law experienced a dead battery, requiring a jump start. The radio was totally dead. All fuses in the fuse panel were checked first. My local Volkswagon service center was kind enough to assist me in removing the radio from the instrument panel (special "key" required) free of charge. In the back of the radio is a 10-amp mini fuse that was blown. Check it out before you spend megabucks replacing anything else.
