I keep getting a reply from you guys saying I might need to add details to my question. Are you serious? Do you guys really have answers or is this just a web site to waste my time? Please tell me what more info you might need to answer a simple basic request. Thank you!

SOURCE: I have a ticking coming from the engine( 1999

You dont give us much to go on do you?
Ticking from the engine can be really anything. As long as it's only ticking and not loud noises you need not worry. White smoke when starting leads me to believe your engine may be a little on the old/worn side.(more than 100000 miles?) Still nothing to worry about. (Worn rings or valve stem seals will cause that, but wont halt the engine. Just make sure the oil level in the engine is correct) It is unfortunately an expensive repair but if the engine is running something as simple as changing sparkplugs will get the engine running again if it stalls.(Spark plugs get fouled with oil on older engines and cause misfires)
The gas smell in the cab is a little more serious. You shouldnt smell gas in the cab at any time. It may be as simple as a leaking pipe. Easy to fix. You can DIY if you can see the leak. Just replace the pipe, It needs nothing more than a screwdriver and perhaps a pair of pliars.
It may unfortunately also need some adjusting. Unfortunate because it costs money even though it is very simple and uncomplicated.
I would suggest that when you do take it in, tell the mechie your hubby works on an oil rig in the Gulf, he usually works on the car but you dont want to take any chances and he'll only be back in 2 week's time. That should protect you from about half the chancers out there. Never let on that you are the weaker one. You're simply there to get the job done quicker.

SOURCE: 1996, 2.2 chevy cavalier, I keep getting different

the 2.2 is a timing chain. If the cover on the front of the engine is metal it is almost always a timing chain. If it is plastic is always a timing belt.

My heater keeps shutting off how to stop that

your question came in under "CARS & TRUCKS"...

I have seen external applications that require thermal couples... but rather than waste your time & my energy SPECULATING... on the fathomless cavernous possibilities...

Howes about you add a few details... and repost a serious question... (like: WHAT KIND OF HEATER...??).

Add year, make... model... engine size, fuel... transmission..
Current situation... recent history... when the current situation began

Is the heater new, old... just pulled out of the river or donated from a bullet riddled truck...??

Otherwise I'll just answer you MIGHT have a thermostatic valve... incorrectly sensing the desired temperature has just been reached... (2003 Altima? (just guessing again)).K9Q3MN

I hear a clonking noise when making turns

Greetings Bennadetta Kolar,

Be alarmed...

No make, model or year came through to help with detailed answers but a non-specific SERIOUS SUSPENSION issue, ball joints, bearings, bushings, tie-rod ends or MERELY loose wheel nuts...

None is particularly expensive (like engine work)... but really dangerous... Wheels could actually come off
(depending on how fast you are going ... let your imagine be your guide).

If it is a front wheel drive "clonking " could be the half (drive) shaft, torque tubes, "U" joints... "CV" joints... whatever you want to call any/all that DRIVE stuff... Not necessarily wholesale PANIC time as above...
but could get incredibly MORE expensive if left un-attended.

Inspecting under the vehicle (obvious DANGERS aside) is not complex...

Starting at the catastrophic level... with a friend at the steering wheel... (engine off) have your partner turn the steering and listen for any noise above the wheels on the pavement...
If a detailed visual inspection... shows no loose nuts, bolts, shiny metal, hanging brackets or chocolate colored dust (iron oxide) visible anywhere... It is hoist time!!

You might want to take it to the PROFESSIONALS (?)... Soon!

If you could rent time on a hoist... or ask a service station for an ESTIMATE... Again... (if you've read me before)
you should always get three... ESTIMATES

Get onto rockauto.com ... look up you car...
price out TWO ball joints... 2 tie rod ends... a "cv" joint or axle shaft... (add it all together ($$))...

Get onto amazon or harborfreight.com... add in 2 SPRING COMPRESSORS, jack stands & a nice roll around floor jack... ($$). Keep all those numbers in mind while you are listening to these "ESTIMATES".

Just keep in mind those ball joints and springs CONTAIN enough FORCE to hold up your WHOLE CAR ... if suddenly any element of that CONTAINMENT were to FAIL... it could RUIN EVERYTHING around it... including you, your friends & mechanics... (fatal... or worse).

Comment me back with the year, make & model...
Better still... buy the manuals for you car ... and study up...
Repairs shouldn't be terribly expensive...

Best.. Lets hope those wheels (lug) nuts are loose...
and have not damaged the rims... Good Luck

2000 jeep cherokee it drives some times like is has viper engine init other times it is like a d10 cat engine so what is up with it

ken send me reply if its the right answer!!! LOL, Seriously take $20 to the local QuiCKY LUBE, and have them clean your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE and THROTtle BODY to SHOWROOM CLEAN. Unerstand how things work here. Your "GAS" pedal is really the "AIR" pedal. Your foot only adds AIR to the air/fuel mixture, Gas is INJECTED elsewhere. The IAC ADDS air to make the fuel mixture correct from O2 signals. If your IAC is dirty, it will no longer make adjustments to the AIR/FUEL mixture!. Have them run GUMOUT and SEA FOAM through your PCV valve too. WATCH what happens!!! your engine will "FEEL" refreshed. Once cleaned up, have them install afresh set of DENSO or BOSCH Iridium spark plugs. THese burn MOrE fuel, more COMPLETELY! NO more CARBON build-up, better power, and more GAS mileage. GOOD LUCk!!!

Why would the service ride control message come on for a 95 cadillac deville?

Because you have a system fault in the ride control !!

If you expect us to guess at what part may have failed,
over the internet, without any testing, I don't think
that would be helpful to a solution to your issues

The gears crunch when changing up or down, also in reverse. Sometimes I have to use force to get it into gear properly. Would I need a new gearbox? Or could the problem be clutch related?

needs a new clutch ,its grabbing and not clearing properly ,do not use force to change gear as these vehicle dont like it the syncros break ,stop engine put in gear clutch down then start engine Cannot really answer the wear in the gearbox question without a drive though but from what you descibe i would say clutch but it could the syncros but not on all gears ,normally second goes then thrid and fourth then finally first .best bet is to get a local mechanic to have a drive and then post what he says on here by answering my reply then i will get it .

REPLACE FUEL FILTER

OK, try looking under the rear of the vehicle, on the right hand side in front of the fuel tank...it may be hidden by a protective undershield.

If I guessed right, please give my reply a rating to help others
judge my knowledge / guessing skills.
If they do not, please hold off on the rating and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
