I replaced the rotor an distrubtor cap changed an the guy took the hole distrubtor out and now it want start

What do i do now?

If the plugs are getting spark, you just need to reset the timing. Line up the marks on the crank pulley and put the rotor at the number one plug wire. It will either be correct or 180 degrees off.
Once the engine is running you will need to use a timing light to set the timing to spec.

SOURCE: 94 mercury cougar wont run after 10 min

the fuel filter is either blocked or installed in the wrong direction.the rotor and distributor cap are fine. swop the fuel filter around and try again.

the rotor is diven off the cam by a gear, if the gear comes off or shears teeth, then it will not turn..

sounds like you have the plug wires on the cap mixed up. reccomend recheck the order and make sure they are in the right order

do you have a resistance tester for open closed circuits? testing the omhs resistance is the only way! or purchase a new one and go fom there!

Closed circuit normally means it's ok as an open circuit means there is a problem....

Won't run, got fuel, got spark from coil to distributer but will not fire. Tried new plugs, fuel filter and dust. cap. No go.


You may want to change your rotor bug in distrubtor,If this don't work you may have bent or wornout shaft goig down from distrubutor inside motor. But if your getting fire to the coil but not the distrubtor i think the rotor bug will fix it. Good luck to you.

I have a 1988 Ford F250 4x4 with a 4.9 straight 6 engine. It will run about 15 min's then just shut down. I will wait for about one hour for it to cool off then it starts up runs for about 15 min's then...


I would replace the distributor stator and the TFI ignition module both of which are in and on the distributor. Use Ford OEM parts (Motorcraft) as after market fail very quickly.

yes if the distrubutor is out one gear tooth is enough to keep it from firing at right time, let me tell you how to drop it in,first take out number one plug, should be front plug on drivers side, turn over motor slow bumping it with someone with a finger over the plug hole to see where number one is all the way up, when the piston comes up to blow off your finger,stop, take something to slid in plug hole to feel piston it up ,drop in the distributor where the rotor is pointing at number one one the distrubtor cap ,when cap is on the rotor is at number 1 on cap ,should crake there ,time with timing light then ,hope this helps you, thanks robert b.

My truck will turn over but will not fire up.


if u have no spark it could be the distrubtor module or coil if u have a mate with the same truck try swapping coil

Car takes a while to start


A tune up might be in order. By tune up I mean spark plugs, Distrubtor cap and rotor button and plug wires. I would also check the timing and replace the fuel filter.

the alternator is still not charging be sure to check all the grounds on transmission and be sure the plug that goes into alternator is not melted or damaged you may have gotten a dud alternator some aftermarket rebuilds are **** please rate -jeff
