Question about 2000 Buick Regal

Open Question

He fixed the power window switch on drivers door and now I have absolutely no power to any part of my car. He says its because of the corosion on battery terminals -- so he cleaned them. I have no dings, lights, not even a starter tick when I try to start my car. What did he do to cause a complete power outage to my car?

It turned out the ground wire to the battery was loose, Evidently, it loosened up when driving so mimiced the earlier symptoms because it connection was sporadic. I hooked up to a computer to verify after connection tightened and it came away with no errors or problems.

Front power windows quit working

More than likely it is the switch on the driver door panel. The seals on these switches break down after time and can leak water when you open the door in the rain. This causes corosion in the switch contacts and leads to failure. Since the front widows are the ones that are used the most frequently, they are usually the first to fail.
It isn't difficult to change with simple tools. You will need to take the inside door panel off to get to the switch mounting screws and to disconnect the wiring harness from the switch. All of the window switches come out as one unit. Replacement switch assemblies are available from many after market sources.

Driver window quit working after car wash

It appears that the electric motor that operates the windows has become faulty after letting in water after the car wash. The motors are sealed with a gasket, but can some times let in enouh water over time to cause corrosion an prevent operation. To access the window mechaism and motor you will have to remove the interior door trim an then undo the necessary bolts to remove the window mechaism. Removing the end bell of the motor and alowing to dry and removing any corosion should get it working again if the motor has not been burnt out.

2005 Chrysler Town & Country. Passenger side window problem.

HAVEK 1005 sounds right on track.... but also try this, usually works well for non functional power windows, specially Caravans.

NO COST PROCEDURE TO FIX IT:

1. Sit in vehicle, on seat next to problematic window
2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is opened (in case you closed it)
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button pressed !!
5. SLAM hard the door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.
7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, but usually the first try works!

NOW, for the naysayers that says you must replace power window motors etc, at $$$ cost because the above fix does not work, or is not long lasting fix, or less than a "professional fix".... Well then, when the window fails to operate again, apply same fix again at that time.

I have fixed my van this way numerous times (usually once a year), and to all local friends I recommend this fix too, likewise do the same and are happy with the solution.

Power window problem

On my girlfriend's Civic, the same problem cropped up and it was the driver's door switch assembly. The power for all the windows is routed to the driver's door switches, and from there, out to the other doors (that's how the window lock on the driver's door is able to shut off the window power in the back doors). If your driver's door switch assembly has failed, you'd have no power to the windows, regardless of which switches you're trying to use. I'd suggest going to a salvage yard and finding a new driver's door switch assembly and swapping it into your car and see if that fixes it. It shouldn't run you more than $15 or so, and they're generally pretty easy to swap out - figure a few basic tools and maybe a half hour or 45 minutes of your time.
