Question about 2001 Mazda Protege

1 Answer

My car would shake when at a stop and almost turn off. The belts would make an awful noise. I took it into the shop and they changed my spark plugs and the connector wires, and they replaced all three of my belts. One the drive home the car did the same exact thing but worse, it wouldn't let me go over 25 miles and the light started to blink. I took it back in and they said it was my alternator and battery, both got replaced and now the light is back on. Don't really want to push the gas too much in case it stops in traffic. I drive around a 4 month old and don't want to break down. This is a 2001 mazda protege.

I'm having the exact same problem! My 2001 Mazda Protege makes an awful squealing sound when I turn the AC on or when I accelerate past 30. Mechanics keep saying it is the AC clutch, but that has been fixed and it keeps squealing.

This is a little late...but I have a 2001 mazda protege too, my belts would make a horrible noise too..sounded like a dying pig squealing. My dad replaced both of my belts and it stopped but then when i turned on the heat or it rained it would do it. Then my brother just tightened them better and it hasn't done it in months. My car still shakes though. Went to Advanced Auto for a free battery test and my battery was okay but my starter is going out which takes out the battery and alternator too.

Some starters must be aligned for the proper engagement; with chevys it is with shims. Check your shop manual for your car model and vin to find the procedure for setting the proper clearance.

It's possible that your timing belt is installed one notch off and is idling rough because the cam is too far advanced. There is no such thing as a tune up on cars made after the 1990's. The only tune up items left on the later vehicles are sparkplugs and plug wires; everything else,e.g., fuel mixture, spark timing etc. are controlled by the computer.

Lets focus on the plugs for a moment. All you really need to do is remove 1 plug and check to see if it is fowled. This will show you what one looks like http://www.ehow.com/video_2326832_identify-bad-spark-plug.html and this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6A1keWQAeE is part of my training program at work for my new master techs to view and tested on before they are certified Also, if your car is shaking, your look at BAD TIMING which needs to be set by an auto shop so the vehicle stops shaking. The most cost efficient way to do this is to pay for the TIMING first see if that fixes the problem, then if not you change the spark plugs yourself as you never know what the auto shop will put inside your heads!!! Estimated fees if you want a shop to change your plugs in SC is about $200 for an 8 cylinder and fee for the timing is about $75

1999 nissan frontier is idling rough the truck shakes but shaking stops when the air is turned on. changed oil, spark plugs, spark plug wires and distributor cap.

This can be your Idle control valve, when you turn the air on it puts the engine under load and your computer will increase the idle automatically to prevent the engine from cutting out.
When you are standing still and the car is shaking, by touching the accelerator very softly does the shaking stop? If so check the idle control valve.
I hope this will help.

Sam

My 2004 jeep wrangler 4 cyl SHAKES only when i turn on the AC ???

mcdevito75 here, When the A/C is on it"s an extra load on the engine, the cars computer sends a message to the high idle sensor to increase the engine speed to handle this extra load. The sensor or motor device used on your car to increase the engine speed is not working, have your local repair shop run a scan on your computer and Idle system.
