SOURCE: How do I replace a camshaft position sensor on a 2000 ford escort

bullshits, the CMP sensor is near the 4 injector, you have to take out all the electric conector near injector 4, take out the 2 screws that hold the fuel rail, sometimes you have to take out the 4 injector for the space, then take out the screws that hold the CMP, lub the o´ring of the new one and reverse this steps.

SOURCE: Camshaft position sensor

look under the coil pack you will find a round black housing just about where the distributor used to be before they changed over to the coil pack engine

2 screws and this housing comes off and it is the cam sensor

a word of warning the main cause of cam sensor problems is that the magnet in the rotating part
(or as ford calls it the syncronizer ) this magnet comes apart and actually hits the sensor and damages it
if this occurs you have to replace the sensor and the syncronizer this requires a special tool to set
it ( if you do not use the tool you will set a code for cam crank not syncronized

Hope this helps David

Yes you do the fuel and ignition timing is controled by that sensor and if it set in there wrong the car will not run very well. They may give you a plastic tool to set the sensor in but every one that has been set in by that tool has been wrong. In order to get that sensor put in correct you need get the tool that you can rent from most of your good auto parts stores.

I changed out the MAP sensor, and the idle air sensor on my 2006 Ford Taurus. This was before I had the fault code read at a dealer. Code came back as P0340, and P0430 Band 2 cat worn out. I had the cam...

P0340 FORD - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1Possible causes- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
- Camshaft Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty starter motor
- Starting system circuit
- Dead (Weak) battery
P0340 FORD Description The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.

When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.

When the crankshaft position sensor (POS) system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals.

Camshaft position sensor on a 2003 ford taurus, how to replace

Need a repair shop to test the sensor

A sensor code doesn't mean the sensor is bad
could be the cam sprockets stick

Your best off with the use of professional test
tools for diagnosing that

Look at some you tube video on the subject
for your car & engine size

Remove any other accessories that might interfere with the removal of the camshaft sensor like wiring harness, spark plug retainers or engine cover, depending on your particular Ford Taurus model.

Move the fuel-injectors wiring harness off the valve cover studs as well to gain access to the camshaft sensor if necessary.

Locate the camshaft sensor around the top of the engine. For more information, see the Resources box at the bottom of this article.

Unplug the camshaft-sensor electrical connector by pressing on the lock tab and pulling the plastic connector off the sensor.

Unfasten the two sensor mounting screws using a Phillips screwdriver and remove the sensor from the engine compartment.

Installing the Camshaft Sensor

Position the new camshaft sensor in place and start the two mounting screws by hand to avoid damaging the threads.

Tighten the two mounting screws using the Phillips screwdriver.

Plug the camshaft-sensor electrical connector.

Realign the fuel injectors' wiring harness over the valve cover studs.

Install any other accessories you had to remove to gain access to the camshaft sensor like wiring harness, spark plug retainers or engine cover.

Where is the camshaft sensor located? The engine light came on, so I took it to Oreilly and ran the codes. The camshaft sensor malfunction is the code it read. So, I need to know where it is located, so...

It depends on which engine you have. It's between the cylinder heads either on the front (by the belt) or the back. Your sensor looks something like this:

Squealing from the top of engine what is it coming from?

See if noise is in what used to be your distributor location. It is called a camshaft synchronizer. The camshaft sensor spins around in this assembly. If it has play in it the sensor will rub on the assembly & cause a squealing noise. It will generaly set check engine light for bad camshaft position sensor. If you buy the synchronizer new it will come with the tool needed to properly install the sensor at its correct position.

My car is not pumping oil a 1997 Ford Taurus I replaced the oil pump

Im guessing you need to replace the gear on the camshaft position sensor! it also drives the oil pump. its a common failure its made of plastic or fiber. im sure you also have a camshaft position sensor code. replace that gear and hopefully your motor is ok! good luck!
