SOURCE: 93 toyota 4runner speedometer not working

ive had the same problem,, but mine also has no shift pattern sometimes. sometimes i can be idling and my speedo is all over the charts. three people told me to replace the speed sensor. it had one 12mm bolt attaching it, but it is in a stupid spot tucked behined the mounting bracket on the left side with two wiress coming from it. I just held the tranny up and dropped the whole cross meber. but I dont think that is necessary. you can most likely get at it with an open end wrench. you gotta have faith!! burns-

It idles but when put in gear it goes dead

spark plugs, a tune up is not 1 filters.

read the 60k, service points list? bingo.

sounds like you have no engine power. (not tranny slip)]

if rpm goes high and you dont move, the tranny is slipping.

causes?

of low engine power are 50 , reasons.

but top 2.

never did the 60k. (tune up)]

low fuel pressure for any reasons.

tell engine size, lots of sizes, cant guess that or what to do next

3cyl, or 4cyl, never ask for engine help not stating the engine options.
A/T tranny Right not STICK shift manual..
stuck in 3rd but trans is ok. (a gross contradiction if ever)
why not listen to him, if it stuck in any gear , there will be huge power loss. why not scan it."? is your mech, a non ASE? tech?
(if you mech, can say which end is bad, find a new mech)

get the errors. from the engine and the trans.
here is the easy way to see which is wrong.
1: do the FSM stated transmission stall test. this takes me 1min.
a: hand brake set hard.
b: car pointed is safe direction (mother inlaw?, LOL)
c: chock front wheels to ground. (aka; blocking wheels)
d: warm engine and cold (i try both , due to trans, fail both)
e: foot on service brake pedal. hard, say 50lbs force.
f: WOT the engine, wide open throttle (per FSM)
g: read the tachmeter, (on dash or tool) or scanner.
all USA cars 97 you can read RPM with any scan tool ever made.
h: see RPM rise and stop, this is STALL speed.
what your doing here is making poor mans DYNO.
dig?
if the tranny slips, the RPM goes out of control. tranny bad.
if the tranny dont slip RPM look like this. it loads up and goes
to near 2000 rpm. and holds, (full engine power)
if the engine is weak, the RPM will be less. (read the FSM)
google "automatic transmission stall test"
or read the FSM in the the on car test for A/T? there are many.

once you know which end is bad, we can diagnose that too.

have you done the 60k miles service yet? if not , why not do that now.
spark parts, filters, yada, yada. ,need list , its in the operators guide
and in the FSM. both.

My 1995 Nissan pickup xe truck when I put it in drive it will not shift out of first and once I get to the speed of 25 miles a hr. it shifts into neutral until it goes down to appx. 15 mph then it kicks...

V6 or I4 engine? xe = i4?
bad tranny.?
low or too high ATF levels.
clogged bottom filter before pump, (shifts hot?)
RE4 trans is 4speed electronic
RL4 xxx trans is manual only
this side of your tranny has a tag is it RL/RE4 or or 3speed.

3 speed or 4 speed the FSM show four A/T used then .
there are 5 tranny total then ,4 AT (1 m/t)
on car diagnosis varies greatly by type.
fluid checks (if electronic the Tcm blink codes (DTCS)
pressure checks. for weak pump.
that stall rpm tests.
here is one used on your car

Transmission problem

It sounds like the torque converter seal failed. As the converter's rpm's increase the fluid is forced to the outside away from the seal. So it will tend to move at higher rpm's. However you could cause further problems in that condition.
Your best bet is to pull the tranny and replace the seal.
Good luck.

I have a '99 Eddie B. Explorer....there is no light at the O/D

If you have the push button on the dash it is called an e40d tranny and if you do not have the button it is called and AODE tranny. Usually you should not see an increase in RPM's unless you are doing over 70 mph. At around 45 you will problem not see an RPM increase. As for the shudder when going up a hill it sounds like it is having issues going into overdrive could be a shift solenoid. Try having the tranny flushed and filter changed and see if this helps it out.

I have a 1997 buick lesabre that when it is warm begins to stutter very badly.Ging up a hill is very bad or when car is loaded up the problem is worse. The rpm guage goes up and back when the engine does...

You need a tune up. Spark plugs; Spark plug wires; fuel filter (but you already replaced this) and air filter all need to be replaced. This should fix the problem.

Yes, this is normal. The tranny is electronic and if any plugs are not plugged in properly the tranny will not work properly.
