Question about 1998 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

1998 firebird passenger window "sticks"

The window will move a little, an inch or so, then stop. After several minutes it will move a little more....going up or down. This is the same with both switches(driver and passenger controls)
I had a stereo installed @circuit city a year ago....after a few months the passenger side door speakers quit after 6 months the window began acting up. Also a few weeks ago the right headlight wouldn't pop up every time.
I don't know if any or all of this is related.
I have checked the fuses, but don't know about in-line fuses.

Okay Lets start with the window problem.

The factory wire guage is too small and under-powers the windows. You can read up about it on, just do a search for AutoTrix or slow passenger window.

Here is a post about it

You can get the wiring kit at

For the speaker: I would take the door panel off and check the connections for the speaker. It might be easier to check the connections on the back of the stereo first but something either came undone or the speaker died.

The headlight is another common problem. The headlight motors come with plastic gears that strip. Yours could just be sticking from rust on the linkage or the motor is dieing. If it is the gear I would look into this info here :
If you just go to his home page there is TONS of info on firebirds

Good Luck

1997 f150 with passenger side window off track

You probably need a part called a window regulator. They are put in by glass shops and can be installed while you wait. It is a part you get at a Dealership, sometimes parts stores.

You get into hidden screws and attaching parts and by the time you order anything a glass shop can do it faster.

I had several small C clamps and wood and managed to move my fallen window back into place until the correct part arrived. You would need to place the clamp and wood on a frame piece inside the door. But realize that some of the shock and vibration protections are gone with this improvised method.

My power window opens a few inches and stops, wait 5 minutes it will open another couple inches, and so on, and so on until it is open all the way. It closes the same way which is great when it starts...

The most likely thing is that the wiring is a little poor and maybe the window regulator is partially siezed... you need to take the door panel off and oil the regulators moving parts, you can pull and push the window while pressing the buttoin to help it along. theres also the possiblity that the "runners" that the glass slides in have moved a little since the car was made, you can loosen the runers with a socket or spanner and make them so they are straight and flush witht the glass and the glass is a snug, but not tight fit.
should solve the problem.
if not you do need a new motor or whole regulator for that window.

My windows and my radio stop workig at the same time!!

Sounds like you could have an issue with a connector going into your BCM or possibly your BCM itself. There is a fusible link that comes off the BCM and it goes to your radio and power windows. Off hand i believe its circuit 75 if you have a wiring diagram and possibly a dark blue wire. On the passenger side kicker panel there is your BCM you can try to wiggle the connector and see if that is it or inside the BCM the solder joints could be going and in that case your screwed.

Power Windows stop, and then move a little after waiting about 60

Sounds like it could be your switch going out. Does the rear switch give you the same problem? If not, then I would suggest you go to a junk yard and find one to replace the front one, even then they range in price from $35-60. A new one from the dealer is best but more costly. Good luck hope it helps.

Double check all your fuses and and wires in connection with your power windows. Unfortunately though pontiacs are notorious for the power window motor regulators to go out, my buddy had 99 firebird and both windows had the same problem, and I previously owned a 98 sunfire and both window motors went out within the same week.
