Harness didn't come with instructions?

Soluton I posted was a comment, not a solution...Actually a question??? Actually, I'd rather make a harness from scratch rather than try and figure one out without instructions...Since 71 did not have a really complicated system it would not be too difficult.

Why are all of my dash lights on and speedometer doesn't work

Could be the fuse for instrument panel lights or the connector for the instrument panel at the back of the cash cluster as they are easily dislodged.. If there has ever been any under cash work done or stereo wiring. Etc. If you bought the car used I suspect the harness connection. If the vehicle starts and runs I suspect one of the two.

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee.. None of the buttons work on the driver side door panel. Windows won't go down. Could this be a fuse? If so, I need a diagram for the fuse panel. Will i have to test every...

This issue is most likely related to a loose connection in the wiring harness. There is a wire harness that runs inside a rubber boot and is visible when the door is open. Move the boot up and down, back and forth with a little pressure and see if the buttons work. If so, there is a break in the wire inside this harness and is very common with Jeep. You may also need to remove the door panel and inspect the connections to the door/window switch module to correct this issue.

Unless you have some decent knowledge of electrical systems, I'd recommend that you leave the present wiring in place, clean it up and perhaps re-tape any "raggy" areas. Not saying it can't be done but remember that one mistake in a critical area will be far from painless.

Tail lights out

There is another fuse box behind the change holder on the lower left side of the dash. When you open the change holder you will see two "Fingers" one on each side that hold the change box up. Gently squeeze these inward and rotate the change box out. You will find the missing fuses there!
