Question about 1998 Cadillac Catera

98 Cadillac Catera, Cranks but not starts.

The car will crank but does not starts.
Everything works when I turn the key.
It haves no spark.
I change the crank sensor.
And the Ignition coil.
I am running out of options...
Please help...

98 Catera Cranks but wont start


Did car run out of fuel? If so yoou may need to get rid of air lock. There is a fuel rail on the top of engine with a valve on it like a bicycle tire. With key on, remove cover on valve and push it until fuel comes out. This may solve the problem. If not you may need to loosen the nuts at injectors to allow air to escape. Also caused by fuel line leak.

Did you check fuel pressure at the injectors with a gauge before and after replacing the pump ?

Changed motor now car will not start


the computers that tell the engine when to fire are sometimes different even with the same motors - replace the sensors from the old onto the new motor and i bet it will run -

also there are sensors other than just on the engine itself - also check all ground wires - and recheck all wires and make sure none are hanging without being connect - also check ur main fuse in the fuse box under the hood -

My catera will not start, i think it is the ignition switch can you tell me how to change it out?


If it cranks and doesn't start, check the CPS crank position sensor first.

I HAVE A 2000 CATERA AND IT CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START WHAT CAN BE? I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE!


There are only 3 things that will make the engine run:
1. Fuel,
2. Spark,
3. Compression.

1. Check you are getting fuel to the cylinders, you should hear a motor sound in the fuel tank when key is cycled on and off. Check for fuel pressure at the fuel rails, the injectors should buzz.

2. Check for spark, test the output at the coil banks.

3. If all the above check out, you may not have compression maybe a broken timing belt?

Does it try to kick at all? Are you using a good key; the security system will check the key program and if not correct, will shut down the fuel pump.

1999 cadillac catera there is oil in the spark plug hole why is that. it was running when it was parked, I was changing the ignition switch.everything seems to be fine, it turns over but will not start.


oil in the spark plug hole means that you need new valve cover gaskets. replace valve cover gaskets and change spaekplugs and the car may start.
