Check Engine Light on 2004 Envoy

Donny,

My check engine light goes on a off evey couple of days and I took it Auto Zone and code came up as a low coolent, bad coolent sensor, or bad thermostat. It seems that my thermostat may get stuck open. Could this damage my vehical? Should it be a immediate fix or could it wait until I have time? Any help would be greatly appreciated? Below you wrote:

That code represents a lower than expected reading for temperature (coolant). First thing to do is check your coolant level, as if it is low, then the sensor can not read correctly. Second, you may have a thermostat that is stuck open, allowing the coolant to cool off too much. The sensor should be mounted on top of the engine, near the thermostat housing.Same problem, changes thermostat.  Engine is gone and it runs better now.  But-  now when I use the AC or even the Heater fan it wants to stall when in idle.  Runs great when driving, have to turn the fan off when sitting still.

When your car is at idle, the rpms are low, and turning on additional accessories puts additional strain on your trucks charging system.
Your envoy comes standard with an 80A alternator and should not have any problems keeping up with the current draw of your entire vehilce (every accessory on at the same time).
When your car is running, the vehicle gets its power from the alternator. The battery is only there for starting the vehicle.
Your alternator is on its way out.
Take it to your local parts store to have it load tested.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Envoy Shuts off when A/C is turned oncould try this, clean the throttle body bore.here is a bulletin showing you how.Engine Stalls When Air ConditioningCheck Engine Light on 2004 Envoy - mag-glass_10x10.gif Is Turned On at Idle2004-2007 Buick Rainier2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazermag-glass_10x10.gif and Trailblazer EXT
Engine may stall with the air-conditioner on and or while adding additional loads to the engine at idle. An example of an addition load would be turning the steering wheel left or right with the air-conditioning on. This type of stall usually occurs during idle or slow parking lot maneuvers. This concern may not set any diagnostic trouble codes.
Clean the throttle body bore and the throttle valve plate using a clean shop towel with GM top engine cleaner, GM P/N 1052626 (Canadian P/N 993026) or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner, P/N X66-P, or an equivalent product. this should help

This could be your alternator or your battery it sounds like your vehicle is drawing to much power when running your ac or heater so that sounds like your problem i'ld have auto zone check both alternator and your battery also you want to make sure that your drive belt is'nt loose or worn good luck

What does it mean when check engine light blinks

A flashing check engine light indicates a serious condition with the engine, and the car should not be driven far until that condition is repaired. You need to have the fault codes read to determine what the problem is. You can have this done at Auto Zone for free. If you continue to drive like this, you will destroy the catalytic converter.

your going to have to check online for that code and usually no matter what you can always drive a car with the check engine light on as long as the car feels fine.

yes i would change the plug wires , you can take a spray bottal with water and spray that wire, and if it starts to run real bad then it is shorting out, you may also have a injector going bad you can test this buy puting a ohms meter on it and ck the ohms it should read the same or close to the same as the other if not it will need replaced

do you fill the gas tank with the key on?

Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour an then reconnect and drive for 10 miles. It may run rough for this period. This will clear codes from memory.

Coolant Temp Sensor

The sensor is located on the drivers side engine block...although you can see if from looking from the top of the engine, you would have to get under the vehicle and look up to replace it. Be aware that it takes a special tool to unscrew the old one and screw in the replacement.
