SOURCE: Hi, I have a 2008
The correct way to 'jump' a vehicle is to connect the RED alligator clips of the jumper cables to the RED (+ positive) terminal on the batteries, and to connect the BLACK clips to a piece of metal, which should be a good engine bracket, or some other heavy piece of metal, that is connected to the engine, on both vehicles. Make sure that you have a good, tight connection, and be sure that the RED is not touching anything other than the battery terminal.
Hook up the Jumping vehicle first, Red, then hook the dead vehicle RED, then hook the jumping vehicle BLACK, then hook the dead vehicle BLACK. There will likely be a small spark when you make the last connection, so don't freak out if this happens. If there is a MAJOR spark, to the point that it seems to want to melt something down, then you have hooked it up backwards. After it is hooked up correctly, let the Jumping vehicle run for awhile, like ten minutes or so, so that it can charge up the dead battery in your car. Then, start your car, and unhook the jumper cables in the reverse order. After you have started your car, let it run awhile to fully charge your battery back up.
I am not sure by what you mean "I only have a red connection" Because the battery has two terminals, a red+ (positive) and a black-(negative).
