This is going to be a pain. but, you have to take the inner panel off from the inside of the car. This will allow you access to the mechanicals of the door latch.Spray it up good with some penetrating oil. let it soak for a few minutes. And observe how the latch works and work it back and forth until it works smooth again. They have a tendency of corrodeing up. And lubericate it a few times a year after you fix it. and you most likely wont have this problem again. hope this helps.

The same thing happened to my 2001 Montero Limited just last week. My brother sprayed a lot of this liquid he uses to remove very old and rusted screws from his old cars and after about 20 minutes, it worked. You spray it on the lock and let it run down inside the door until you see it drip out. I mean, you have to spray A LOT. I can't remember the name of it but if you go to an auto supply store and ask for the spray (it's aersol can that's red, white and yellow) that's to remove old screws and bolts, I'm sure you can find it. It's stronger than WD-40. He recommended I spray the locks every so often with WD.

My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee's back passenger door won't shut. The lock is down and won't allow the door to shut. What might the problem be, and how do I get it to latch?

In most cases, all you need to do is open the door handle as you normally do to open the door. While holding it in the open position, use a screwdriver to rotate the latch back to the open position.
Look at a door that's open and you will see what needs to be moved.
If it hasn't been damaged by slamming the door on it, that should work. Otherwise you will need to open up the door panel and remove the assembly and either repair or replace it.

The back door of Odyssey 04 no longer opens, how to repair?

Make sure nothing jammed in the way to stop the door from moving and is it one of those automatic closing doors, because if it is, you may either need you motor replaced or your power connections to the motor checked for shorts and broken wires.
