How do you reset the computer in a 2005 f259 super duty 2wd 6.8l

Engine light on with pic of engine and wrench.
The engine will not idle, surges, and lacks power.
I sprayed cleaner on the mass air vol. sensor wires. Didnelp

To clear the memory on the computer just disconnect the positive cable on your battery for about five minutes. This will clear up any trouble codes for the moment. Go to Autozone and they will hook up the scanner to your car for free and tell you exactly what is wrong with your vehicle. Good luck!

"Wrench" light is also call the "Check Engine Light" or the "Service Engine Soon Light".

They all mean the same thing. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected and error. It should store that eror code in its memory.

    unhook the negitive cable for about 10-15 mininutes and should clear
    the codes but if it is a hard fault is will come right back on, hard
    fault meaning that somethings wrong that the computer sees and the
    system needs to be scanned and repaired thanks

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. Check for air leaks on or around any intake pipework using a good spraying of carb cleaner, if the engine surges then that's the leak. Check wiring to Maf and if the inside is dirty, again use carb cleaner liberally...NOTE: do not use Wd40... If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

Here are the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and/or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving

Engine surging idle


Check for a manifold vaccuum leak, or an opening between the MAF, (mass air flow sensor), and the throttle body. The easiest way to check is to spray lightly with aerosol carburetor cleaner and watch for engine to die or surge.

2002 focus engine light on, code po171, whats that?


Lean operation, usually caused by a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum hoses for looseness or cranks, etc. Also check the main air inlet hose from the air cleaner for tears. If no vacuum hose leaks, check the intake manifold gaskets for leaks by spraying carb cleaner on the gaskets while the engine is idling. If the speed changes when you spray the gasket, it is leaking.
If all that is good, try cleaning the mass airflow sensor by spraying electrical parts cleaner on the wire of the sensor. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Jurking gas smell shifting hard little power when pulling heels


well, there are a few things you can try! a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ) transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging,engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. also be sure your fuel filter is ok! and not plugging up. a maf sensor symtom is surge, slip condition under load, the mass air flow or MAF may be degraded or contaminated. stalling, misfiring, poor acceleration. a light may not come on. you can go to any auto parts store and buy a spray can of maf sensor cleaner. follow directions on can, and this should help alot. good-day!!

Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.
To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

2004 jetta tdi, has engine miss & lack of power, has p0101 present, if unplugged has less power, but misses less, already cleaned extremely clogged egr valve, changed engine oil/filter, checked maf...


Running rough?? If i took a guess I'd say there's a faulty injector. Does it smoke like hell ?? Does it also miss at idle?- If so get a line wrench and a rag handy. Start the car and while idling wrap the rag around the base of the fuel line connector on injector 1 and crack it just a bit until fuel comes out. It might spray, thus the rag. If the miss gets worse, that ain't the injector to blame. Continue with the other 3. If you crack a line and there is no or very little change in the miss then you found the guilty party.

On a long shot it could also be a stuck valve.

Did that get it?? It sounds like an issue other than MAF but.... get a multimeter and try probing the connecter to the MAF. When you find out what it is , please let me know. I'm curious

My 97 jimmy sometimes dies while driving and idling. no lights come on, fuel pump is working, is not overheating. once it dies, it starts up again immediately.

Possible vacuum leak


In order to troubleshoot this, you must start with a clean engine wipe down.


The major offender parts are


air intake gasket on the manifold

air tube after the mass air flow sensor

rubber seal under idle air control IAC motor

Warm up the engine for 15-20 minutes (LEAVE THE engine at idle) then spray a little Barmen carburetor clear on the potential air leak location (ONE AT A TIME) and listen for a surge in rpm.

If the engine speed go higher that's mean the carburetor cleaner (ADDITIONAL FUEL) got into your engine and that's the gasket you need to change.

There may be multiple leaky spots so take your time and check all rubber gaskets,sensor and hose that are lead into the intake manifold.

When you finish fill up with one tank of Chervon to clean out the injectors.


Try to get a toque wrench and tighten ever bolt on the valve cover back to specification. If you can not get hold of one then just give each bolt a gentle 1/6 turn.
