SOURCE: Need to replace the shifter cable on a 2003 PT Cruiser

Have the EXACT same problem. 2005 Pt Cruiser w about 88,000 miles. Became hard to shift when cold and then bam ....something broke. Moves freely. I know I'm going to get screwed on this... what should it cost to have it fixed. The guy at a shop close by (figured close to make towing easier) started into this 'its a dealer only part and blah blah...at least an hour .... " He's going to send an estimate tomorrow. I'm in E. metro Atlanta

Kia Rio won't shift into fourth gear acts like it stuck

Make sure you check your gear oil..There's a top and bottom bolt..Bottom for draining..Top for adding....I have took off the bolts around my gear shifter and lifted it up and added oil there...But gear oil will have a long tip on it...You can add a small clear hose onto it and squirt it into the hole..When it's full oil will start running out the top bolt hole..Then just screw it back in...Or take it somewhere to get it checked....2nd it could be your release bearing going bad..Add the oil first...Might solve your problem..Can't hurt...But you need to do it very soon

First off have a load test done on the battery as there is a dead cell evident. Run fault codes and look for a problem TCM (transmission control module) which may be affected by the battery fault. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal problems. Check oil level when hot.

My 2001 kia rio automatic transmission appears to run as if is in neutral when placed into every gear. The linkage has been observed and appears to be connected and in working order and the transmission...

Check if ur axle in front is moving, if it is moving u got a LOOSE NUT on ur front wheel axle, some front wheel drives have tendency to loosen the nuts holding the axle to turn the wheel. It may also have a damage AXLE, let the mechanic check that! In ur transmission, modern automatic transmission have SLOENOiDS that acts to shift the FLUiD from one gear to another and its not FUNCTiONING. Better bring it to ur nearest dealer to check on that SOLENOiDS Most of the Transmissions today are electronically controlled!

You mean the shifter is stuck?, in park?or the shifter goes to each gear but the car wont move? If the shifter is stuck, check all fuses and be sure the brake lights operate.

The gear shift is stuck in park , is there a way to release it?

I don't suggest you drive it this way, but if you just need to move it, go underneath to where the shifter linkage is and disconnect it from the trasmission. Then move lever on transmissnion into gear, if you can't move it. your transmission is locked up, not your linkage
