Im considering buying a o3 monte carlo ss but it wont continue running,,how expensive is this fix, been told its the key

If it starts but only runs for a couple seconds it could be the key. Many keys have small computer chips in them, but I think it's a little odd that the key should go bad. Call the local Chevrolet dealer service dept and ask if they have a way to check the key. They might need the VIN of the car, too. It might also be a computer problem, which would be expensive! There's also the possibility the car is stolen. Anyone can make a key that opens the door, etc but because it doesn't have a chip or at least the correct chip, it won't stay running.

Car wont start no fob is the error message

Hi Beth the cars computer dosent recognise the key fob it may have fallen and lost the micro chip this would cause the problem. There is an antenna around the ignition switch that reads the chip in the key if the chip is present there could be a fault with the antenna or the ECU you will need a diagnostic computer to find out exact fault. Does my 1994 J30 have a computer chip of any kind on it?

That depends on what you mean by "chip" as all computer contain chips to some degree. If you mean a chip in the key, then no, USA production Infiniti models did not have transponder chip keys.

Car is being disabled due to anti theft system

This is a common problem on GM vehicles. It all stems from that little black chip in your key. When the computer cant read that chip, the communication from chip to key is broken and the car goes into anti theft mode to protect itself from being stolen. (well, it thinks its being stolen) The problem is that you never know what the problem is. It could be the key, the ignition/lock cylinder, or the TDM (theft deterrent module) also known as the "computer". I found this link that helped me save my car when this happened to me. Alot of info on how the system works, symptoms of a SECURITY failure, and some DO IT YOURSELF solutions to fix this yourself for cheap.

Got a 2002 cavalier, lost the original key, had keyless entry not from the factory, anyways, key goes in and turns, lights, everything works but wont start, is this a chip computer problem. What do I...

It could be a chip computer problem. The new key is cut right, but the chip is not coded into the computer. Must go to dealer to have this procedure done.

I have a 2001 ford explorer. If i tape the chip key under the dash will the computer pick up the chip key if i try to start it with a regular key?

I don't know why you would want to do that, unless your key is broken and your trying to used your spare key, but no that will not work, you would need to hold the key with the chip next to the ignition key hole for the computer to pick up the chip's signal.
