My 2000 honda crv loses power coming up a hill, almost dies when going slowly around a corner. For a few seconds coming up a steep hill and losing power, the check engine light came on for about 3 secs.

My car is doing the same thing.... I have found that the likely cause is the catalytic converter.....I just had my factory converter replaced when the clamp rusted out...about 5 months ago...I'm heading back to the garage to see what they can do about the replacement one failing.

ECS light came on while driving down a steep hill. What does that mean?

Hi:
The ECS light is the engine control system light. It is telling you that there is a fault in the engine control system, similar to a check engine light in newer cars.
It usually means that there is a sensor reading that is out of range, and your engine system is not at 100% peak performance. Most auto parts stores can check your car for free and let you know what caused it to come on. Then you can figure out what exactly caused it!

When I go up a steep hill, carbon built-up blows out bad from my exhaust

There are a number of things that can cause this condition. First, be sure the engine is properly tuned-up. Have the spark plug and plug wires been replaced? Distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter and oxygen sensor? Then scan PCM (computer) for fault codes. This will tell you if any engine control components have failed. Also check for vacuum leaks or bad vacuum hoses.

95 Landcruiser Turbo warning light comes on under heavy load

If you are "lugging" the engine, you will get increased exhaust temperature (EGT), this will trigger your "turbo" light(not a good thing), ideally you should have an aftermarket "pyrometer" fitted to your car, this will show you the optimum revs etc you should be using in any given circumstance.Or revise your driving technique, ie change down gears earlier.
The turbo should be idled down after long trips or heavy towing, this allows the oil temps to stabilise and turbine speeds to stabilise, thus idle for 2-5 minutes.

Car loses power

When the check engine light is flashing that indicates an engine misfire, which is catalyst damaging. Because you said that it generally only happens up a long hill or at higher speed, and it doesnt happen all of the time, most likely you are in need of a full tune up.
