I recently purchased a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4WD LT with the 4WD AUTO 4 switch push button. We picked it up cheap. We now know why... 4WD dash switch is dead, changed it with a used one lights flash and n

Sounds like the encoder switch is bad ..it on the transfer case .it has a motor with wires going to it.when you press the button it sends a signal to that motor to switch into a certain gear..

Four wheel wont disengage. had switch for 4x4 set to 2wd and the light switched to 4wd while driving down the road and the four wheel drive engaged. Tried to switch from 2wd to 4wd and back but didnt...

if it is a turn knob that puts it in 4x4.then a wire under the truck is touching the exhaust pipe making it do this. I had this happen to mine. It will be 2 wires so they more and likely came loose.

The 4wd wont disingauge back to 2wd i jacked up driverside front tire while motor was running pushed 2wd button turned wheel till it catches wont come out

Check the fuse to the 4x4, if the fuse is good then check the 4x4 electric motor actuator on the transfer case. You should hear it work from 2wd, 4hi to 4low and back to 2wd with the push of the switch. if you don't hear it working then check the wire harness at the actuator motor, look for any damages like corrosion or cracked wire connector clips. If the 4x4 actuator is working on the transfer case. There is a vacuum switch on the top of the transfer case, driver side but when that fails, your front hub stay's locked in the on position. Good luck and keep me posted and hope it's a simple fuse that has gone bad. You can pick up all these parts at Auto Zone or Parts Source and they will have the step by step instructions for you to get the job done with common tools. Replacing the vacuum switch on top of the transfer case take about 15 min to replace if you don't have to jack up the Jimmy if not 30 min if you have to jack it up. Be safe and keep me posted, be glad to know your go it working again.

If the 4x4 actuator is working on the transfer case, then the front hub 4x4 actuator may have gone bad and that's located on the front differential. It's common for the clip there to corrode and break and is an easy fix with a new collar pin, at worst it's the diaphragm on the vacuum actuator that is located under the battery tray. My friend has jus bought a 1992 Pajero, 2.5 auto, swb, no manual with it. He has heard that when changing from 4x4 to 2wd that you need to stop the vehicle, go intp 2wd, then reverse for a couple of yards...

He need not stop to change from 4x4 hi to 2wd. He can also go from 2wd to 4x4 hi "on the fly" as long as the front hubs are locked, he is going straight and maintaining a steady speed. If the hubs are manually locking, he must exit the vehicle and lock the hubs. If they are automatic locking, in order to go from 2wd to 4x4 he must stop, put the vehicle in 4wd hi and pull off. Once he starts moving, the hubs will automatically lock, he can then switch from 2wd to 4wd hi and vice versa "on the fly". To unlock the hubs, he will need to stop, put the vehicle in 2wd and back up 3 ft. (remember, this is on automatic locking hub models). Hope this is helpful!
