We've got a '54 Honda CRV 2.0 l petrol which has a timing chain that has slipped. Any advice?

you could have bent valves but try fitting it on and start but if it does not then u ll have to take your cylinder head off (chances of bending the valves 90% and that is if u tried stating it or when it broke when the car was driving

Every time is raining water use to enter the petrol tank

You might be having a leak somewhere, either from the petrol-filler outlet, or from the top of the tank where the fuel-pump is mounted.

Splurtters anf splurts, engine light comes on looses rpm @ stops

Engine performance will directly affect trans operation. You need to do some testing to determine if your problem is fuel or ignition related. Begin with basics such as condition of fuel filter, ignition wires, cap and rotor etc. then, using an inexpensive manual and digital volt/ohmeter, do some specific tests if you haven't already found the problem. If you have a question about anything you find, I or someone else here can help you!

When the engine is running on my volvo s40 if i take oil filler cap off oil splurts out with pressure.

A bit of splash is normal from the slight backpressure created when the pistons go down in any engine, but might also be due to clogged PCV valve. Put the cap back on and pull the dipstick and see if you hear constant hsssssss from there, or if the oil splashing abates from the Fill hole.

As a rule, you are not supposed to open that with the engine running ;-) Very messy on a nice Volvo

My money is on the PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilator ($3.00-20.00)

Water comes out of the exhust plus a putt putt nosie when car is runing

A putting sound from the exhaust is usually indicative of an exhaust valve leaking.
This was very common a few years back when unleaded petrol was first introduced and people were putting low octane petrol into cars that really needed four or five star petrol.
The lower octane petrol would burn the valve seats causing them to leak.
Go to a garage and get a compression test done, that will tell you straight away which cylinder is causing the problem.
As for the water, water is a natural by product of petrol combustion and is usually noticeable when the engine is cold.
It is possible that your putting sound and the water are one and the same fault, you could have a cracked cylinder head that is leaking coolant into the cylinder that has the leaking valve.
Time to take it to a garage for analysis.
