It works when it wants to. you drive somewhere and its works fine and then when you start it up the next time it will not work at all. you can park it and it most likely will work the next time .

The Tachometer usually get its drive pulses from the coil. Check the connection of the wires and connecting plugs around the coil. If that doesn't fix it, check the multipin connecting plug on the rear of the instrument panel in the dash.
