MAF (masas air flow) can do this but you say it idles fine, So your connection of the distributor is not good, it has a tendency break internally it looks good on the outside but disconnects on the inside.The solution is the pigtail of the distributor
i had the same prob on a toyota check out the fuel presure if its good its prob the fuel regulater i think it should have around 32 psi but call and double check that
well if it runs normal when your driving then it sounds like a gas problem or maybe you need to adjust your idle a little bit, other than that it could be fuel filter or carburetor adjustments
It sounds like the gas control lever under the hood may be sticking a little and not retracting fully to idle.Open your hood and have someone start your car.When they give it some gas you should see the actuator move which has a cable attached,probably located at the end of the fuel injectors on the driver side.It should be pretty noticeable as about the only moving mechanism when the gas pedal is pushed.Usually pushing the gas pedal makes the lever move toward the driver.Once you have found it,push down on it in the opposite direction as giving gas to see if the revs decrease back closer to idle.If it does,WD-40 on the hinge where it pivots may help.Spray it,rev it a couple times and check.Even if it works on the first try,do it a couple more times.If this does not work,please reply back and I will get an auto link to see what you posted. Idle air control valve or a vacuum leak, the idle air control valve controls the amount of air let into your engine when you start or while running you holding your foot on the gas lets more air in.
Coils and wires are the most likely culprits as they never get replaced hardly ever. You cant really test a coil, you can check for resistance on the plug wires but that doesnt tell you if the insulation is bad on them.
as , with most corsicas , around that time , it seems that there is a general problem with the cruise control . . . try unhooking the arm that connects the cruise control to the engine . . . should be easy to take off , and see if that helps the problem
