Hello - my 2nd hand 2006 Toyota Corolla - the idling seems low - this just started (not sure what caused it but by coincidence had to change my car battery and once changed I then noticed this low idling...

I am not sure about the exact idle required, but yes 500 is low.You should check the throttle position sensor next.If it is bad,it does not know how mauch gas you are using, nor how much is required. This is definitely a symptom of that.It also uses the TPS as an input to the engine computer which is 'telling' it to shut off.

There is a squealing sound coming from the engine on start up and when sitting idling. Is it the serpentine belt or are there other reasons for this. Is that the only belt on a 2006 toyota corolla...

Check tension the drive belt(s) as slipping at low rev is a classic indication of this fault. In extreme conditions a rubber burning smell may be present. Replacement of drive belts is the 100% remedy and best option .

I just bought an 2001 corolla and it seem that it sit's low to the ground is there anything I can do about that

the only thing that holds vehicle hight are the coilsprings, or somene has put the incorrect tire size, it may be possible someone altered the springs, another possibility is the struts are frozen, but thats easy to self diagnois, it will ride like a go cart.

Possible exhaust restriction.
Could be cat converter.
You can try and unhook the exhaust system and try it.
If the car will run a few minutes try a vacum guage hooked up to engine vacuum.
If you get a very low reading that would be your answer.
