Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

I do not have any fire from the coil and engine code P0336 shows.

I have a 1998 Chevy s10 with the 4.3 engine.I replaced the engine and transmission. All of my wires and grounds are hooked up. The engine will not fire at the coil. There is primary voltage but no secondary voltage. I have inspected the wiring several times, and have not found any flaws as of yet. Also the engine is coding put a P0336 code. which comes back to a CKP sensor. Through my research i have found that it seems like everyone's vehicle with that code is still running, just not very well. I am so lost with this problem if anyone has any idea please let me know. Thanks

Yea it was a used engine with 120000 on it and i tried the crank sensor from the old engine and a crank senor from another engine i know runs.

yea I looked in the hole and the reluctor ring is there and it does turn with the engine. i also removed the one off the old engine to make sure that they where both the same and they were. The new engine sounds good turing over and does build both compression and oil pressure. I am almost wondering if the computer making this all happen. I know that the engine that was in it spun a rod or main bearing, and on the way to the shop the truck did lock up and got extremely hot. Would that have anything to do with it?

both of the engines are the same year, 1998. but I found out that the engine that was in my truck was an x vin code and the one that I pulled is a w vin code. everything plugged into the right spots.

Did you put in a used engine, do you have the crank sensor off the other engine? If not, without looking at it I would suggest replacing the Crank Sensor.

Did you hear the new engine run before it was taken out of the donor. If you look inside the crank sensor hole is the pick-up wheel in there? Someone might have left it out during a repair that went bad.

No that shouldn't hurt anything. Are both engines relatively the same year?

Let me check into that. I'll post tomorrow.

When you change the crank sensor you need a scan tool to set them. The distributor has to be turned using a scan tool to get the crank sensor dialed in.

I have an 1998 chevy s10 automatic.this morning I noticed transmission fluid on the ground I checked and it comes out from a hose on top of the transmission but I don't see where it hook up?

From what I have read elsewhere: There is an overflow hose on top of transmission behind engine which actually is from the transfer case. Fluid will drip down onto exhaust and eventually catch on fire. Check transfer case for being overfull by taking the top fill plug out. If transmission fluid runs out, I believe the transfer case input shaft seal is shot and needs replaced. Mine caught on fire. I was lucky to get fire out before truck burnt to the ground. If you continue to drive vehicle at have something to put out a fire!!!!
