Question about 1996 Ford Explorer
I have a1999 Chevy Tahoe. I need it smogged but there are three things that are keeping it from passing. (1) Catyalyst status (2) Secondary air status (3) EGR status. What can I do to get one of these to show complete?

hate to tell you this, but park next door to your test site, get out and disconnect your battery for about 30 secs. when you reconnect it,it puts your engine into an "open loop" mode, for about 25-50 miles, and while in the loop, that annoying light wont come on. you still need to goto auto zone and have them pull the codes to tell you whats going on to cause the light to come on,but this trick will get ya your inspection sticker.

I have a 2005 Camry that has this as a 'feature'. the check engine light comes on after a few thousand miles to indicate that the oil has to be changed. Even if you change the oil, the light comes on unless you reset it. If this is also applicable to your Corolla, check your manual for exact instructions. I always have to look up how to reset it. It is a combination of turning your key in the ignition and holding the odometer reset button. I have to do this every so often. Btw, if this is the cause of your check engine light, it is only meant as a reminder to you, there is nothing wrong with the car.

Just maybe your O2 sensors are not operating properly. They may be requiring your engine to heat them up to get upper temperature readings but not lower. You can easily diagnose these and all other sensors and problems by purchasing a Hains manual at your local Auto Zone or Advance auto store which will greatly aide you in diagnosing all your auto needs. And the fault symptom index at the beginning of the book will ease your troubles with professional one on one advice with step by step instructions. Its like having your own ASE certified mechanic at your finger tips. Good luck.

SOURCE: will not pass emissions test
the light is an emissions code in there sometimes its a oxygen sensor or the egr valve gets clogged in hondas...you need to retrieve the code to narrow the problem down

Have you had it reset and it still comes on? there are 8 different systems that need to be monitered, just because it passes emissions doesnt mean you dont have a problem, have someone run the obd2 scanner on it to pull your codes, if nothing comes up , have them cleared and see if the light comes back on.
