I assume you are changing the timing belt. I am a mechanic and although not familiar with your vehicle, you would usually locate the timing mark on the bottom pulley and line this up. Careful not to turn the engine over too hard as pistons can strike valves. then you should look for similar marks on the camshaft pulley[s], and line these up. Then fit belt. This has to be tensiond correctly which is important. Hope this helps. Mike the bike01.

Your engine is probably an EJ-DE twin cam 12 valve.

Generally Daihatsu belts have marks on them that line up with dimples on the sprockets for the intial phasing. You rotate the engine to top dead centre on No1 piston and install the belt from there. The cams should be not be putting any pressure on the intake and exhaust valves of No1 when phased correctly.

SOURCE: 2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off...

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.

Most times engine surging is caused by a manifold vaccuum leak. Lightly spray some carburetor cleaner around the intake manifold and vaccuum lines to check for a leak.

Daihatsu G10 Jerking while driving up hill

If this fault is seen only when the car moves up the hill or an inclination the fault seems related to the fuel pump and pump calibration for fuel output. It is important to check fuel pressure and also fuel flow as it seems that the fuel pump does not support when there is a tilt. It might be needed to check from the fuel tank , the fuel filter and the pump. Also check the timing /tuning.
