Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier

The display for the tape player says to clean it...

So the display on the tape player says to clean it, so I bought a cleaner (with a demagnetizer-type thing) and tried it. It still won't work, even after several attempts. Any suggestions??

Try unhooking the battery for 5 min to reset the radio. If that doesn't work, buy a used one off e-bay or a new aftermarket stereo.

Cleaning the Radio may fix it but what it sounds like is there is a lever inside that got jammed and you have to take the player apart to get it to work again.. Cheaper to get a new one

Can the laser in cd player be cleaned or repaired?

There are many different types of CD lens cleaners on the market. Get the best you can afford and try it. If a heavy smoker owned the truck before you, it could have a film on the lens. It might remove it, it might not. The lens can be cleaned with denatured alcohol but, if you don't get all the residue or film off, or scratch the lens or get the head back to the proper start position, it still won't work. Either way, you will have a good cleaner for your home electronics.

What does tight tape mean

If you are seeing this on the display of your radio it most likely means you have to clean the player. Pick up a clean up kit at best buy or walmart.

Clock in radio will not display or radio station number will not display on my 1999 jeep wrangler am/fm tape player. radio only displays the numbers 1 thru 9. the radio and tape player both work.

I won't sware this will cure yours but I took the front cover off mine and where the little metel slot things plug into your radio i took some steel wool and cleaned and shined them up. The cover should come off by gently prying on the ends. Mine even had a spring that when you pushed on it it poped out a little. But becareful not to pry to hard. If it won't budge the get someone who can help you pull it off. You should see the metel contacts that almost look like you could take it out to prevent theft of the radio. Let me know if this helped. Just a guess mind you. Please no bad marks, Good Luck, Raz

I have a 91 Honda Accord with the original FM/AM/Cassette stereo. I use a cassette car audio kit for my cd/mp3 player and the cassette player has flipping sides while the tape for my audio player is in...

probably the belt for the pullys inside are worn, if you can get replacement ones they are easy to fit, just open the case and slip the old one off and new one on.(may have to remove an internal cover also)
