SOURCE: 2004 mitsubishi outlander cooling fans not operating

TAKE A PEEK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE FUSE PANEL FOR THE FUSE AND RELAY FOR THE COOLING FAN. IF THE FUSE IS BLOWN THEN REPLACE IT. IF YOU SUSPECT THE RELAY TO BE BAD THEN TEST IT BY SWAPPING THE FAN RELAY WITH ANOTHER ONE WITH THE SAME PINS ON THE BOTTOM. MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME SIZE AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS.. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: mitsubishi outlander cooling fans not operating

There is a Recall to replace your cooling fan module because of this concern.

Open your hood and look at the black box bolted to your radiator fan by the battery. If it does not have a green dot on it, you have not had the replacement fan module installed.

Contact your local dealer with your VIN handy to verify the recall has not been done and to schedule an appointment.

If the recall has been done, verify if you have power coming out of the module to the fans, as the fans do burn out eventually.... but rarely both at once.

SOURCE: how do you reset change oil light on mitsubishi outlander

Turn the key off.

Press the "Info" button on the left of the dash cluster until your maintenance miles/months screen is displayed.

Press and hold the "info" button until the maintenance screen begins flashing.

Release the "info" button and then push and hold it it for one second.

Your Maintenance intervals should reset to +6 months and +7500 miles since the last interval amount.

Note that if you have not reset it for more than one interval, you may need to do it more than once. If you have not done it for many intervals, you may need to have it reset with the scantool at a dealer, as I have run into a handful of vehicles that the oil change reminder locked up after 3-4 "intervals" were skipped/not reset.

Hi I have a 2003 mitsubishi outlander with an overheating problem.I understand that there was a recall to replace the cooling fan controller. We are now in 2011 do I still qualify for the recall to...

I had the exact same problem with my 03' Outlander. I called the dealer and gave them the last 8 digits of the VIN and found that my Outlander had "no outstanding recalls". Tough luck. Apparently, the recall/repair was done a few years ago by the previous owner and now its acting up again.
Well, have no fear, the problem is caused by a defective cooling fan controller which is located on the inside wall of the radiator. You cant miss it. Disconnect the plug thats attached to the input of the controller (it comes from the ECU in the fuse box on the drivers side engine compartment). Check for 12VDC coming into the unit from the ECU to make sure its got voltage when the engine is running with the AC on. If it does, and the fans are not running, the unit is most likely the problem. You can also check the two outputs to the two fans for 12vdc to make sure the fans arent both bad. (unlikely)

Give the unit a tap with a wrench with the AC on and engine running (be careful) to see if the relays free up and the fans start running. It worked on mine! Now the car runs cool as a cucumber even at long red lights and in traffic jams. Sometimes the relays can get stuck. I hope this helps.

wrenches. tire tool. hammer , pliers , a jackstand or blocks to support the vehicle. a jack to manipulate the lower control arm . air compressor and air impact wrench and a socket ( metric and usually a special size ) available at Auto zone for rent
which is refundable when you take it back ( so its free )
the sad part is that the driveshaft just pulls out of the transmission, and slips back in with a little effort. all held in place with 1 special nut. the bad part is that this PROCEDURE IS DANGEROUS because removing the lower balljoint lets the TENSION from the strut assembly FREE and can hurt you or even kill you. Please exercise caution. this task can be accomplished with minimal effort and a few tools.
